Thus Says The Lord-Who God Says He Is, His Commandments and Promises
Jeremiah 2:11-13 "For My People Have Committed Two Evils; They Have Forsaken Me, The Fountain Of Living Waters, And Hewn Themselves Cisterns-Broken Cisterns That Can Hold No Water "
Good morning, good morning, everybody. Good morning, good morning. I pray that you had a wonderful night, that you are well rested and ready for another day with the Lord and another day with the citizens of this kingdom. Let us go to the Lord in prayer.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your goodness and your mercy towards us. We thank you, Lord, for all that you have done and what you're still going to do. We look to you in this hour. We thank you, Lord, for the seasons.
We thank you, Lord, that you are the God who we can lean on, we can rest on, we can stand on with full confidence, knowing that you have our best interest at heart. We thank you, Lord, that you see all things, that you know all things.
That you are not confused, that you are moving things. around in order to accommodate that which is you are doing in our lives. So, Father, this morning, as we come before you, we now shift our attention to today, knowing that you have daily bread for us, that you already have ideas that you have set in motion for us to follow.
So, Father, as we walk out this life and as we walk through this day, may you guide us, may you walk with us, and we pray this prayer in Jesus' name, Amen. Brothers and sisters, it's good to be with you.
It's good to know that I'm part of a kingdom that of people who are striving to do and to be the same thing that I'm also striving to be and to do. And today we find ourselves in Jeremiah 2:11-13.
I will read, has a nation changed its gods, which are not gods? But my people have changed their glory for what does not profit. Be astonished, Oh heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid.
So when we give up God's glory for things that do not profit us, he says we should be afraid and we should be astonished because of what God can do. Then he says, be very desolate, says the Lord.
For my people, they have committed two evils. Not 20, not 30, my people have committed two evils. The first one is they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters. So, forsaking God or giving up God is one of the evils that God does not like.
Then the second one, it says, and they have horned themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water, two evils. Living God, then two not being able to be a vessel that can hold water.
Brothers and sisters, so when we see this, when we hear this, that means the opposite of that is what we ought to really dive into. So, in other words, we cannot leave God, then two, we have to be able to be vessels that hold water so that others can come and drink from us.
So our focus today is on these two things, not what the Lord. God has already told us right here, the two evils that should make every single person afraid. Leaving him, and not being a vessel that can hold water.
So now, let's focus on what we need to do to be vessels that can hold water to not leave God. So one of the things that we are doing, early morning devotion, reading our scriptures, being in church, making sure we are upholding the statutes of God.
Those prayer, worship, all communion and communication with others and relationship with others, those things always cement the idea that God, we are always, we are always never going to leave God.
So which means that we have to continuously enhance these things that we are already doing. One of the challenges of being in something is that you can get accustomed to doing it that we can forget that we actually might need to grow.
This is why you always hear me push this idea of growing every single year. You ought to have to look back and ask yourself, have I grown this year? What am I doing this year that what I wasn't doing last year?
And that means spiritually if you are praying two hours last year, this year you ought to be at three hours, or at least two hours, 30 minutes. You cannot be the same person because we have to grow.
Why do we need to grow so that we won't commit the two evils that God is talking about here? Because when it's easy to become stale, it's easy to become stagnant by just doing the same things.
That your routine from last year hasn't changed. That there is nothing in you that's saying that I need to go higher. I need to do more. So we ought to evaluate our lives so that we can continuously do more.
Why do we need to do more? So that we don't commit the two evils that God hates, or that should make us afraid. Then the second thing he says, we have to be vessels that hold water.
In other words, whatever you study, whatever spiritual encounter that you have, should not leak through you. You should be able to hold it so that when people come in contact and in touch with you, they can drink from you.
I have met people who have been in church for a very long time that cannot teach, that cannot preach, that cannot pray or that haven't mastered the art of going to the next level. We are not doing that so that we can say we are greater.
We are doing it because we want to be able to be vessels that hold water so that other people can drink. One of the lessons I have learned as a pastor is that the job of a shepherd is not to grow sheep.
The job of the shepherd is to grow grass, so that sheep can have grass to eat. And when the sheep start producing, it is the job of the shepherd to cultivate more land so that grass can grow in order to feed sheep.
As a pastor, I have a responsibility. Even right now, I'm already thinking about next year, things that we need to either change, or things we need to enhance, or things we need to do, so that this prayer call continues to grow and hold much water so that people can drink from.
Why do we need to do this? So that we don't commit the two evils that God is speaking about in Jeremiah chapter number two. So we have a responsibility and the homework assignment from today is that for the rest of these coming days before the year ends, we need to start taking stock of our journey as believers.
If you haven't brought anybody to Christ, try to bring somebody to Christ before the year ends. If you haven't encouraged another person, try to encourage another person. Because that's the evidence that you are now a vessel that holds water.
We don't want to be the same person that we were last year, this year. We need to grow. We have to grow. Why do we have to grow? Because we do not want to commit the two evils that Jeremiah is speaking about in this passage of scripture.
So we have to enhance ourselves. You have to study new things. You have to find new books of Christian authors or read a different version of the Bible so that you can grow. Because God is in the business of growing this kingdom.
This kingdom has to grow. It's a spiritual organism and you are one. We cannot forsake God for anything because it's one of the evils that He does not like. There is nothing else besides Him and a life without Him is not a life worth lived.
So we have to grow. We cannot be stagnant. We have to dig deep wells inside of us so that people can come and drink from us. You have to get new revelation. You have to have greater insight.
The level of thoughtfulness pertaining to scripture has to expand because when it expands, God gives to you more.
When God starts elevating you and bringing you to spaces, into places, into different groups and different organizations and putting you in front of people to do different things, it's because He is trying to expand you.
Faith without works is dead. And that word works is not talking about physically doing work, it's talking about spiritual expansion of your faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.
So the more you hear the Word of God, the greater the level of faith. The greater the level of faith, the greater the vessel you become. The greater the vessel you become, the more water you can hold.
There is nothing like watching somebody who has been given a greater task than he can handle. Because that same task can literally kill you. As parents, as grandparents, we ought to grow for the sake of our grandchildren, so they can drink from you.
If you have read the Bible once a year, maybe you need to read it twice. If you fast once a year, maybe you need to go to two times. Whatever the Lord is pushing you to do, because the idea is to make sure that your capacity is growing as a believer.
The evils that are happening in our world are happening because the ones that are spiritual have not grown their capacity to challenge those things. So, brothers and sisters, we have a responsibility to grow so that we do not become victims to these two evils that I mentioned in Jeremiah chapter number two.
It's easy to forsake God when you are not growing. It's easy to not do great in a job if you feel like it's not pushing you to be better. It's easy to get bored, if you are not growing, it's easy to not commit if you are not growing.
So we want to be vessels that can hold much water. Not just a little bit, much water. You ought, I always say this. It's not about how much do you want to know. It's always how deep do you really want to go with this Christian faith.
That's why you always hear in the Bible say, somebody says, I sought the Lord three times. That means the first time they were not satisfied. So I want us to grow spiritually, that is. I want you to grow so you can be a vessel that holds water.
Somebody every year ought to look at you and say, something is different about you. You sound different. Something is happening inside of you. So that You know I am growing. Because if you are not growing, the opposite of that is true.
You possibly might be dying spiritually. And I don't want us to die spiritually. I want us to expand. That's why there's a scripture in the Bible that says, expand the gift of God inside of you. In other words, rise up and do new things.
That's why the scripture says, behold, I do a new thing in you. So I want us to take stock today, or during the course of these last remaining days of this year, and ask yourself, Lord, am I growing? Am I holding water?
Do I have new revelation of who you are? Is my prayer time changing? Am I experiencing new things in my prayer time, in my communication with you, in my study of scriptures? Is my insight improving? Because we have to grow.
We don't have any option. I said a few weeks ago, between now and 2030, the world is changing hands, the rear guard is on its way out, and a new crop of spiritual leaders and believers are being raised up to take over the vacuum that has been left.
And you ought to be part of the number. Your name has to be thrown in the hat. As we all grow, our children start having children. Your nieces and nephews start having their own families.
You ought to be the person that they go to for encouragement, inspiration, and wisdom in order for their lives to be grown and challenged. That's how you know I am a vessel that holds water. Not a little bowl.
You want to be vessels that hold water. Why? So that we don't commit the two evils that Jeremiah is talking about. So, we have a responsibility. We have a responsibility to grow. We cannot be stagnant.
We have to be doing new things. I'm not talking about forsaking the old. In other words, you need to be doing what you used to do and even more. So that you grow, so that you are a vessel that people can lean on, can trust, that God can say, I trust you.
This is why Abraham is the father of faith. He showed us how to stick with God and how to grow in faith. And look at what God does in return. He made him a council member of his great and grand auspicious community that he can speak to, pertaining to matters that concerning humanity.
We see it in Genesis when God is going on his way to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. And he had to consult with Abraham because he had proven over time that he was a growing man and that he was now a vessel that hold water.
So we all have a responsibility to grow, to become vessels that hold much water. But people ought to know that you are a pillar. You are a pillar in this kingdom, you are a force in this kingdom.
And doing these things, the Bible says it will help us to not commit the evils that should, if you do, will make you afraid of who God is. So, we have a challenge between now and the end of the year.
I want you to start asking yourself, have an inquest with yourself. Lord, what do you want me to grow to? How much do you want me to hold water? Am I still the same person I was last year? Have I decreased or am I growing?
The Bible says, the harvest is plenty, but laborers are few. In other words, there's few people that hold much water. So we gotta grow. There's things that we all are desiring to do.
And sometimes God has to take us on a journey to grow you before you receive that which is coming to you. Sometimes God has to elevate you before you place in your hands what He is desiring to do with you.
But the ultimate goal is so that we don't commit the two evils that are being talked about. You should never be a stale Christian because the Spirit is always growing and is always revealing. He says, I'll never leave you nor forsake you.
It wasn't just about being with us all the time, but it was also to continue to elevate us so that we become greater, much bigger Christians that hold so much water that others can drink from.
When I was in Kenya, I learned something that was really incredible pertaining to this. This year we picked up a different school. Last year we picked up a different school that we were studying missions work on this year.
And last year, when I walked on that campus, the very first day we went to see it, there were no students, there was nobody, it was just the school teacher and the head principals just walking around the school and showing us the work that it needs to be done and explaining the history of the school.
And when I walked on that school, it hit me really hard that right there in this little village, there is a massive spirit of witchcraft. I felt it and I told the team that, hey, this is not just going to be the same mission trip.
It's going to be different. Boy, was it different. And the same group of people that went on this mission trip last year also went this year, plus three new people. But I knew from the onset that we're going to have to grow spiritually in order to execute what God was demanding us to execute.
Because, boy, didn't we see it. So many people got sick. But on the other side, the morning devotions and the day-to-day conversations, you could see that this group had gone and grown in a whole year.
In other words, God had prepared us spiritually to grow every single one of us in order to handle the task that was at hand. Next year, something else is coming for all of us. Greater challenges, greater chaos.
That's why we have to grow. I want you to imagine these brothers and sisters, because we all have been together for a little bit now. Think about this spiritual growth that we had to go through last year in order to handle the challenges and the chaos that's happening in 2025. God had to grow us.
Otherwise, if we were the same people we were last year, I don't know how we could have handled 2025. But God grew us because this was coming. And next year something else is coming, so you have a responsibility to grow, so you can handle, so you can be a vessel that holds water.
I can track every single person here's journey from when we started to now. And you can see the level of prayer has changed, the level of education, the level of scripture, the level of revelation, the level of confidence, the level of inspiration that's flowing from within you. And next year it will be the same thing.
And God is growing every single one of us. But again, according to Jeremiah, he saw that you and I will not forsake God, and that will continue to become vessels that can hold water. I want people to drink from you.
I want people to drink from you. I want your children, your grandchildren, your nieces and nephews to say, man, I can always go to Auntie Cynthia. You know what? I can always call Calvin.
I can always call Karinza. I can always call Veronica so she can inspire me. So we gotta grow. So that we do not forsake God and so that we are vessels that hold water. This is why when you see pastors or different men of God start losing it and you start wondering what happened, why are they forsaking God now?
It’s because they stopped growing. They forsake God, and they stopped becoming vessels that hold a lot of water, Amen. So, brothers and sisters, my prayer is that God continues to strengthen you.
And that you grow inside of you desire to continue to grow because something is coming. And in order to handle the pressure of 2026, we have to grow. In order to handle the pressure of 2030, that means we have to study this word and become even greater exegesis.
And even our level of prayer and confidence and inspiration ought to shift to the next level. Because that's who God is calling us to be. So today, as you go throughout today, take stock.
Challenge yourself, equip yourself, equip yourself. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, our blessed Redeemer, words cannot express the magnitude of who you are. Your hand constantly, the invisible hand of God, directing, shepherding, pushing, slowing us down, pacing us up where there is need to.
And I'm praying, Lord, that in this season, as we look at our lives, as we dive deep into the crevices of our hearts, my prayer, Lord, that is that you grow us spiritually, emotionally, physically, inspirational wise.
Your word says to us we should desire the greater gifts, the gift of faith or faith, the gift of wisdom. and the gift of prophecy. I pray, Lord, that may we desire those things so we can draw. We do not want to be stale Christians.
We do not want to continue with the way things are. If we knew one scripture, we want to know five next year. If we didn't know how to preach, we want to learn to preach. If we didn't know how to encourage, we want to learn to encourage.
If we didn't learn, if we haven't learned how to confront evil, Father, educate us so that we are not still Christians. Pray for every single person that God, may Your Spirit now reside in us as we take stock.
May You challenge us where we need to be challenged. May you strengthen us where we need to be strengthened. May we be encouraged in our coming together and in our conversations with one another, and in our communion with the Holy Spirit.
I pray for every family represented here, that may you continue to bless us, continue to turn our eyes from worthless things, and direct us into the path of your command. Now we pray that strength and wisdom, courage and boldness, determination and effort be part of our journey as we expand the gift of God that is inside of us.
So I ask you to anoint everybody as we grow, to strengthen everybody. And I pray, Lord, for wisdom to continue to arise. May You do exceedingly, abundantly with every single one of us. Protect us from harm and danger, and lead us not into temptation.
As we continue to do your will on earth as it is in heaven. Thank you for giving us today's bread. As we trust you, as we lean on you, may we go through this day with confidence of knowing and the surety of knowing that you are with us.
Heal anybody who might be sick. Strengthen anybody who might be weak. Challenge anybody, Lord, who might be slowing down. And I pray, Lord, for seniors amongst us. Bless them with spiritual strength and wisdom so they can continue to anchor and execute what you've called them to execute.
I pray, Lord, for strength for all our seniors and wisdom. Bless our children as they go to school, their interactions with their teachers and their schoolmates. Shut their ears and eyes from worthless things and continue, Lord, to safeguard them from the voice of the enemy that seeks to destroy a generation.
Now we pray in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ to guide us today in all that we will do in Jesus name we pray, Amen and Amen. Brothers and sisters, let's all go and have an incredible, phenomenal day. We'll see you tomorrow morning.
