Thus Says The Lord-Who God Says He Is, His Commandments and Promises
Isaiah 48:12-15: "Listen To Me O Jacob, And Israel, My Called: I Am He, I Am The First, I Am Also The Last."
A very good morning, a very good morning to you, everybody. I pray that you had a wonderful, restful night and you are ready for another day with the Lord. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning. We thank you for your grace.
We thank you for your love. We thank you, Lord, for your eternal love to us and we thank you for being our Father and us being your children, we thank you, Lord, that you have given us an inheritance, a spiritual inheritance, and we celebrate that we are recipients of that inheritance.
So we thank you that you're concerned about our needs, you're concerned about where we are, you're concerned about what we are doing, and that, God, you have a plan for every single one of us.
So we thank you, Lord, that as we walk this journey, may that plan continue to evolve, come into life, so that we fulfill the mandate that you have for every single one of us in this journey of life.
Father, I pray that as we gather these mornings to devote this time and to fellowship with you and to commune with the Holy Spirit and to fellowship with one another, our prayer is that the kingdom of God continue to be revealed in us, through us, as we serve one another and as we serve others.
So Father, as we come today, we humble ourselves knowing that you hear us from the heavens and we are so quick to do as long as we abide in you and you abide in us. So Father, bless this morning as we come together in Jesus' name, Amen.
We are in Isaiah 48:12-15. As we kind of looked yesterday, you know, and talked about the prophet Isaiah, what he came to do, we want to keep that in mind as we go through these passages of scriptures.
So Isaiah 48:12-15 says this, listen to me, O Jacob and Israel, my called. I am He, I am the first, I am also the last. Indeed my hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has stretched out the heavens.
When I call to them, they stand up together. All of you, assemble yourselves and hear. Who among them has declared these things? The Lord loves him. He shall do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be against the Chaldeans.
I even I have spoken. Yes, I have called him. I have brought him and this will, and his way will prosper. I have brought him and his way will prosper. And as we read 44, 45, 46, 47, 48 of Isaiah, this theme continues to be reiterated over and over again.
God continues to declare his absolute sovereignty, his eternal nature, his role, as the creator of the heavens and the earth, who calls and brings forth all of us to do what he desires to accomplish and to do.
So, when we look at that, we realize that God is over it all. Because the very thing in which we all existed, which is the heavens and the earth, He says it, I created it, I designed it, I laid the foundation of everything that enables us to survive.
So, as he reiterates his eternal authority, as his children, I think the very thing that we all should immediately go or gravitate towards is to humble ourselves and in understanding that God is the ruler of it all, not us.
Because when you think about who he is, and then you think about your individual life, how it is contained in this massive, eternal war that he created, you then realize how small you are. You then realize how small you are.
And the moment you realize how small you are, the thing that should automatically rise up in us is humility. This is why the scripture says if you humble yourself and pray. So in order to pray, humility has to be perfect. And the way we get humbled by God is by him showing us how massive he is.
The way we get humbled in life by other people or by humanity is through embarrassment and all kinds of things or to show that you are nothing. But the way God humbles us is that he shows us who we are and then he shows you yourself.
And when you see yourself in the context of who he is, you realize how humble, how humbling that is. But then again, it also should encourage, inspire, motivate, knowing that the God we serve, he is so big and it's impossible for Him to fail.
God is never going to fail. He can't fail. It's impossible because he created everything. So, that should humble us. That should bring us to our knees. So, this declaration that he keeps reiterating over and over and over again that I am He.
I am the first. I'm also the last. He's highlighting his power as the creator of the earth and the heavens. And that everything in it responds to me, including you and I, we respond to God. I think one of these days we'll do a teaching on how we respond to God.
The different types and ways that we respond to God. And one of them is humility. Humility is so important in that it shows you who you are. And it also edifies the need that you have for God. You realize in the grand scheme of things that man, I'm really a nothing.
If you ever find yourself in an ocean, somewhere, you know, on the sea, and where you look left, right, and you can't see land, all you see is just blue, you realize how vulnerable you are in that moment.
And that's the way we should look at God, and that's the way we should see God. That in the grand scheme of things, he is so massive that he should humble us. This is why I don't understand how anyone will ever think that whatever we get to do, we do it because of us.
Because God created us, gave us the skills, the talent and everything that is in us. That's how intricate he is. That he has furnished the world, he has furnished humanity, gave every single one of us talent, he knows us thy name, he knows the number of hairs in our heads, and he sees it all.
There's nothing that he cannot see or hear. That should humble us. So, this declaration that he keeps making to Isaiah over and over and over and over again. There's a reason why it is. Because I think sometimes we forget who he is.
In our walk, when we are going through things, when we are going through joyful moments and we are going through challenges, we forget who he is. Hence, we need to be reminded, just as much as he kept saying it to Isaiah.
And one of the reasons he's talking about this and telling Isaiah this is because he says, I can use anybody. So he's talking about King Cyrus. It doesn't matter if he decides that he is going to do something and he can't find anybody or if he just feels like I can use a person, he can just use that person.
But again, let's not forget that God's preference, especially when it pertains to using people, it's always people who are in the kingdom first. Always people who are in the kingdom first.
But today, the focus is how big God is. And if we have a good understanding of how being God is, then it leads you to humility, humble. If we ever stop and ask ourselves where humility or being humble comes from.
It's a trait that comes after you have known something and you know yourself and you know where you are standing, then you are humbled. Years ago when I used to play soccer, you know, you play so good in some tournaments and you think, man, I am really good.
Until you meet somebody who is really good. I remember the first time I played soccer in Germany, I realized the standards to these things. And what you thought was the standard and once you realize the different levels, then it humbles you.
So, humility comes in knowing, in understanding and in seeing what things really are. And once you realize that and then you look at yourself, you realize, man, the only way is to humble myself because I am so small as it pertains to the grand scheme of things.
So, Isaiah keeps reiterating the same thing over and over again. He's one of the greatest prophets. He keeps reiterating it because we were going and he knows, God knows that we were going to forget.
We were going to forget how massive he is. So as we go through this day, I want us to really think about who God is as it pertains to where we are and the things that we are doing.
Because he then realized that he can do anything, anytime, anywhere. He is not moved by circumstances. He is not challenged by issues. He is not compromised. He can’t be fooled or manipulated.
You know, when we see people who we believe are being manipulative in the church, that's not God. It's just not God. He's not in that. And if it's not God, then you should automatically know He's the enemy, even in church.
So having a clear understanding of who God is, should comfort, should inspire, should challenge, should humble us, should make it extremely clear that in the grand scheme of everything that we will ever go through, he's always in total control.
And the fact that sometimes he allows things to happen, it doesn't mean that he's not in control. It just means that He loves us so much to give us the expression of free will and it doesn't mean He can't.
If you really want to understand how big God is, with all the things that we can put in place to strategize, to make plans, He can just come and alter it just like that, without any notice, without forewarning anybody, you can just choose that this is what I'm doing now.
And throughout scriptures and history we have experienced this, where nature sometimes just choose to do what it needs to do. And there is absolutely nothing any one of us can do. So this reiteration of his sovereignty, his absolute sovereignty and eternal nature, as the creator of the heavens and the earth, is something that we ought to keep in front of us.
I remember when I went to Dubai years ago, and I was standing in front of the tallest building in the world. I was in awe of how massive this thing looked. As you're standing underneath it, it looks like it's towering and about to fall on you.
Because you can't see how far it goes. And just looking at it and realizing man created that. But then when you think about the one who created the materials that are used on these buildings.
And not only that, but created this whole entire world, where sometimes you go to different places and see incredible views, you realize how God that is. And that knowing should be part of our DNA and should inspire us, should make us stand in faith, believing the sovereignty of who God is.
And I think sometimes we forget. So, I want us to be encouraged by how big God is, to be inspired by how big He is, to be challenged by how big He is. To understand that his full authority is not measured and is not shared by anybody.
He is who he is. He decides what happens and how it happens and when it happens. Every day the sun comes out from the east and nobody ever questions whether he's coming out or not.
On time, on schedule, it shows up clockwork, showing His sovereign authority. And when we see that, we should be humbled. If my people were called by my name, humble themselves and pray and seek my face, that humbling comes from a clear understanding of who God is and how big He is.
So as we go today, just remember how big God is, how sovereign He is, is unchallenged by anybody. And let's walk in confidence, knowing that our Father owns it all, He’s the ruler of it all. And let that inspire you, let that excite you, let that make you stand in faith, knowing that He is more than capable. Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we are blessed that we have a Father who is in total control. We have a Father who knows it all. We have a Father who is massive, who is not moved by emotions or by what he sees, that you are God and you are God by yourself.
You do all things according to your will and according to your pleasure and according to your plan. So as we fit into what you are doing, continue to remind us, Lord, that you are God by yourself. You do all things new and you do all things right.
Father, we pray for your grace to abound and your peace to continue to be elevated in us, knowing that the one that we trust him, He's in total control. Thank you for hearing everything and seeing everything.
And I pray, Lord, that is this revelation continue to grow in us of how big you are. May it inspire us. May it bring us to humility. May it help us with the fear of the Lord, because it is the beginning of wisdom.
So I pray God that when challenges rise up, when things happen and take place, bring us to these thoughts of how big you are, so we can stand in faith. Knowing, Lord, that nothing is too hard and nothing is impossible for you.
Thank you for being a God who is all authority, all power, all eternal. It's a pleasure knowing that we pray to a God who is sovereign, who is not bound by any limitations, that he can move when he chooses to move.
And I pray, Lord, that may you continue to remind us so that our lives continue to be anchored in the essence of who you are. I pray, Lord, that may this revelation be true for our children and our grandchildren.
May they have a clear understanding of who God is. I pray for grace, I pray for love and I pray, Lord, that as we journey along, may grace and peace fill you, fill us sorry. May grace and peace feel us as we abide in you.
Now help us today as we do what we do, as we interact with different ones, as you open our eyes to what you are doing. Help us today as we hear things that can be challenging and difficult to understand, to know that in spite of what we see and what we hear, you're still sitting on the throne.
Help this country and I pray, Lord, that may our children continue to be blessed in everything they do and we thank you, in Jesus name, Amen.
Brothers and sisters, may the Lord bless you, may the Lord equip you, may the Lord love on you, and may you have an awesome day, and we'll see you tomorrow.
