"Waiting On The Holy Spirit - Getting Our Hearts Ready for Pentecost"


"Matthew 10:19-20 - Do Not Worry About What To Say Or How To Say It, In That Time It Will Be Given To You What To Say"



Good morning, good morning everybody, let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before you today with grateful hearts. And we come before you today knowing that we have set this time and make this appointment to be with you.  

Hence we know, you are always present ready for this encounter with us, so we are grateful that your ears are attentive to us and we pray this morning Lord that as we look at your word. as we are on this journey of improving the relationship that we have for the Holy Spirit.  

I pray, Lord, that you continue to illuminate yourself to us and I pray, Lord, that you continue to grow us in all things righteous spiritual. So that our strength to endure our wisdom to function and the ability to relate to one another is enhanced through the knowledge of the Holy one.  

Thank you that you have made the Holy Spirit available to us for any given moment and situation so we thank you that you love us dearly that you have made things simpler through the aid of the Holy Spirit.  

So this morning Lord, as we look at your word, as we fellowship with one another. As a fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Continue to grow us that's our desire. So that we as your people can be the antidote that humanity sees.  

So we thank you for the gift of inspiration and we bless you this morning in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray Amen. Well today's Memorial Day and I know we're probably going to be out and about or at home enjoying different things with Lord bless you in your day.  

So today we are in Matthew10:19. But we're going to start from verse 16 so in Matthew 10. That's when Jesus tells his disciples and give them the authority to drive out impure spirits, to heal, to heal every disease and sickness.  

So he tells the disciples I'm giving you authority to drive out impure spirits, to heal every disease and every sickness. Then it tells them you're going to go and preach this gospel pretty much.  

So in verse 7 says as you go proclaim this message. The Kingdom of Heaven has come near heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demonic spirits. Freely you have received freely, have received the Holy Spirit freely give.  

Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belt nor bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals for a staff. For the worker is worth his keep. Whatever town or village you enter. Search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave.  

As you entered the home. Give it your greeting not the person, no as you enter home give it your greeting. If the home is deserving. Let your peace rest on it. If it is not let your peace return to you.  

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave the home or the town and shake the dust off your feet. Truly, I tell you, it will be more variable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.  

I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, instructions here be as shrewd as a snake and as innocent as a dove. Be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local council and be flogged in the synagogue. 

On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. This is the verse we're focusing on. But when they arrest you do not worry about what to say or how to say it. 

At that time, you'll be given what to say for it will not be you speaking. That the spirit of your Father speaking through you. Now, brothers and sisters I've been enjoying this study and focus on the Holy Spirit.  

Because I'm learning so much cause you know this spirit without measure. I don't believe you can ever get to a place where you say you truly have the all the knowledge of who he is and what he does.  

Jesus is telling the disciples the journey they will take and things they would experience. That he then gives them a comforting word every end and through all this, through all the challenges and the people will meet.  

The issues you will face, don't worry about what to say cause in that hour it will be given to you what to say by the Holy Spirit. Which now for all of us that there are times when we are so afraid or anxious about speaking the word of God or in a group setting.  

When somebody says we need you to teach or you know, whatever situation we might find ourselves. Most times we are so anxious about it. That if we understand this verse here, if God could give the disciples what to say in difficult situations.  

What more can he do? Or what more can he give you and I when we are not under duress. Don't worry about what you would say because is that hour the Holy Spirit will come and give you what to say, for you are not the one speaking. It’s the Holy Spirit speaking through you. 

That's one of the most encouraging and powerful verses in the scriptures, knowing that I don't have to be fundamentally incredibly sound in language and understanding and all the necessary things that we tell ourselves we need. 

But rather knowing that the Lord through the aid of the Holy Spirit will give you what to say, how to say it and now when you think about who the Holy Spirit is you then realize that he is the spirit of knowledge.  

He is the spirit of wisdom. He's the spirit of understanding. He gives utterance as we speak. So in other words he literally can enhance your language, your speech and everything that you need to say for those who are hearing you.  

Brothers and sisters I want to tell you a few stories today. The first one is that as an African descendant and language English is not my first language. Even though I speak four of them.  

When I came to this country you know, I've heard comments like your accent is so thick. Or can you repeat your words? Can you can you say it again? And sometimes people would nod like I heard you.  

But then their answer or in that conversation they will say something that you like. No, you didn't hear me. My sister-in-law I was telling you one day back then that my aunt had passed away but she didn't hear me.  

Instead she nodded, and she said, oh, that's so nice. And I remember April asked and was like, what is so nice about somebody dying? But the reason she said it is because she had got into a place where people when I say hey, I didn't hear you can you say it again?  

So now she was just going with the flow and nodding. And I can say during those early years being in this country I got to a place where I was considering, you know what? Maybe I need to get a speech therapist or I need to change my accent. 

But surprisingly, whenever I go to the church to teach. Morning prayer nobody ever had an issue hearing me. And at some point I literally considered you know, to find their voice therapist.  

I mean you maybe I was thinking about all kinds of stuff because I wanted people to hear me. Until the Lord says, why are you doing? Why do you want to do that? And if you live in this country you probably understand that we kind of have a view of what we know and how things should sound or how things should be. 

So in a way I tried, I received that and I wanted to change the way I talk. Until I realized this verse here. That you don't have to worry about what you say when you say and how you say it.  

And this verse way back there in 2007 gave me an assurance that the Holy Spirit is in control. And what he needs to for people to hear they will hear it. I don't have to change anything. And this verse here helped me to understand and to let things go and to believe that there was nothing wrong with the way I talk.  

Now this shows us how incredible this verse concerning how we will say and what we will say and when we will say it. That it is through the Holy Spirit and why is this so? Because he is the spirit that searches his all things, even the deep things of God, and reveals them to us.  

That when we actually find inspirational words to say to another. It is the spirit that is speaking through you. When you find words that to you probably you just regular words, but to somebody else, what they hear is totally different.  

Here's the second story. Ever since we talked about doing Pentecost Sunday June 8th. Coming together in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. It seems like everything around here at this house is breaking down.

From cars, swimming pool air conditioning, you name it, it's all kind of just breaking down and yesterday I'm sitting in the garage. 

I'm just like Lord this is unbelievable. Swimming pool you know needs to be fixed. So I went on Facebook market to see if I can find a pool cover to cover this so that we don't have to worry about it. 

And in the midst of all this, I found this lady who was selling a swimming pool cover. And I was like I'm going to drive and go see it and possibly get it and cover the swimming pool. So on Friday I'm really exhausted, mentally, emotionally.  

And I'm just like Lord you know I need a break here. So I decided to drive to go pick the swimming pool cover and I had to drive an hour and 45 minutes Trinity, Alabama. And as I'm driving every exit, I'm thinking of just getting off it and turning back and go back home.  

Because I gotta drive an hour, 45 minutes going and hour 45 minutes coming back. Emotionally drained and I'm just like, this does not make sense. So I'm arguing with myself on this road.  

Now the person I had texted back and forth about this pool cover. We started this conversation April 18th, that's when I reached out. Then she never responded for the next three weeks.  

Then finally responded. Then I'm like, are you serious about selling this thing or not? Just like we set up a date. So now this is almost a month later. So when I spoke to her that I was coming to get this, this is what she said to me.  

The reason I haven't responded to you is because I've recently moved from Chicago. And my brother is gravely ill, so I sold my house and moved here 77 years old lady. And I came here to look after him and every day I've been going to the hospital every day and just same time with him pretty much all day.  

So that's why I haven't been able to respond because I leave here at 9 and I come back at 7:00 every day since I moved here back to be with him, his wife passed away and his daughters passed away is all by himself.  

And the Holy Spirit says to me go early and go and pray for this man. So I’m driving with this information now. Which is what gave me the strength to go. Otherwise I would have turned back. So I get to this house, as I'm going and saying hey, let's meet at the hospital so she takes me.  

She's like well it's late I had to leave, I was tired of being there. So let's just meet at the house. I go to this house that is in the deck of the woods. And when I get there, I see this 77 year old lady standing outside on the driveway waiting for me.  

I got out of the car and she told me drive this way go behind the house that's where the thing is, it is so heavy. So I said ok, it should as you just get on the lawn, I was like, should I drive on the lawn? Then she says, oh, please.  

So I drive back there she showed me the pool cover. Lifted it up together. We put it in the car and then I asked her about her brother. She told me the story and then I said, let's pray for him. So we're standing in the yard and we start praying for the brother and boy, did we weep in that yard.  

She is weeping. I'm weeping and finished, she hugs me. She squeezed me like a mother and in that moment, I needed this hug. But throughout this conversation we end up standing there and talking for almost an hour.  

We prayed for this country, which she suggested while you are here, let's pray for this country because of what I'm seeing and we talked and you know, we're just having a general normal conversation.  

And I'm telling you guys back in after that, back in fourth, she's she must have hugged me 7 times in that on that grass. This old lady and by the way, she's white. I get in my car, I leave. Now she sends a text message to me in error because she wanted to text her siblings I guess a group chat they have.  

The Lord wanted me to see this text message because the things she said in that text message gave me so much comfort. Now I can barely recall this whole entire conversation that we had.  

Because honestly, this scripture was functioning as the Holy Spirit will give you what to say. And I'm sure she is saved I'm sure the Holy Spirit used her too. And she found out we have a prayer call and we do all this stuff like, oh, we need Pentecost Sunday.  

I want to come and she says you have given me so much hope. Said I literally was thinking, Lord just ended all. Says but needing you has given me hope for life for this country. Knowing that yeah we will be fine. And then I asked myself, what did I say?  

That no any regular human being would say. We realize it's the words the Holy Spirit puts in us in situations and in moments. Our job is always to be available because once you are available, you don't have to worry about what you say, how you will say it, and when you say it because he will give you words to say.  

And the beauty of this is that the words it gives you will comfort the person who is hearing, but it also will comfort you in the process. That's why he said to the disciples, don't you worry.  

When you find yourself in situations of strife, because at that time you will be given what to say. For it will not be you speaking. But the spirit of your Father speaking through you. And on Friday, I witnessed this scripture, this verse.  

That's why Jesus is the spirit of God is upon me. I can preach this gospel because the spirit of God is upon me. To show you how remarkable this is, look at the answers that Jesus gave in difficult situations, difficult, complex situations.  

Even when times will try to trick him. The Holy Spirit is present. Jesus has asked questions that you be like, why would anybody ask a question like that right here? That has answers were always on point. Now, he then says my Father is going to send you The Holy Spirit, he will counsel.  

He will have conversations with you. He will instruct you on things to say. So the lesson for us is we should never, ever, ever, ever worry about what to say, how to say it, when to say even when people can understand your accent.  

Because the Holy Spirit will give you words to speak. And those who need to hear inspiration and comforting words will hear them. Because it is the spirit that knows what that person needs, what needs to be saved and he will then give you with to speak.  

So let's continue leaning on the Holy Spirit. I'm sure this verse will be so encouraging if ever somebody or if ever you find yourself being asked to say things to give a speech to say a word, to pray, to teach.  

You should lean into this way knowing he will comfort you knowing that you do not have to come up with things to say. The Holy Spirit knows all things and he will give you things to say. Our job is to be present.  

So, Heavenly Father, we thank you this morning for strength, for wisdom, for guidance. We thank you for encouragement. Thank you for the gifts of inspiration. We thank you that these scriptures are full of promises that you gave us.  

That our salvation journey is tolerable, less complicated and sometimes even easy. We thank you for the love you showed us on the cross. And we thank you for the promises and the gifts that you send us as an exchange of your returning book to the Father. 

So I pray, Lord, that in our efforts to do right and to do well. We have to rely on you to give us words of inspiration of encouragement, of correction, of rebuke. For, you know, all things and even such the deep things of God and reveals them to us.  

So we thank you, Holy Spirit, in advance for your everlasting presence. Lord, help us to know him, to be sensitive to his presence and to be accepting of his counsel. Thank you for the spirit of courage that comes through the aid of the Holy Spirit.  

Thank you for your goodness and your mercy as we continue to do prayer for fellowship and coming together. We have set this appointment with full confidence and the Holy Spirit will show up for God, you are always giving great and good gifts.  

Help us in our daily lives, in the challenges that we face, strengthen us in wisdom. But I pray for this day that we have set aside for this moment here. Continue to eliminate yourself to us as we grow in faith.  

We pray for this day as we go throughout this day. Be with us, walk with us continue to counsel us to give us direction in the things that we desire to do. Pray for grace, pray for love, pray for peace, pray for understanding, we pray for knowledge, we pray for wisdom.  

Now, as we go throughout this day. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.  

So brothers and sisters lean in on the Holy Spirit, has been given to us to walk, to Council and to give us words when we need words. May the Lord bless you. May you have an awesome day and we'll meet again tomorrow morning.
