"Waiting On The Holy Spirit - Getting Our Hearts Ready for Pentecost"
"Acts 2:14-39 Peter's Sermon"
A very good morning to you everybody. I hope you had a wonderful night, well rested, ready for a wonderful day. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you for this morning. Thank you for all that you have done and what you're still going to do.
We come before you in confidence knowing that you hear us today as we fellowship with one another, and as we commune with you and the Holy Spirit. Father we pray that we spirit guide us in all that we are doing in the spirit, guide us in the decisions that we make.
We pray, Lord, that this morning as we enter your courts with Thanksgiving. That you know your grace and mercy to you every morning. So Father that will lean to you will look to you. And we thank you, Lord, for your love, your grace and we are so grateful that you loved us.
That the Holy Spirit connected us to salvation, and we responded because we know there are so many people who have heard this message of truth and their hearts have remained hardened.
So the fact that we are in salvation means that we heard this message and we did not hide in our heart. So for the privilege of salvation to connect with this Kingdom, we're so grateful and we pray that we will guide us in all that we are doing in name for Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
Well, brothers and sisters, today we are in Acts 2:14-39. Acts 2:14-39 now we all know this is the day of Pentecost. The disciples are gathered in Galilee. And the Holy Spirit is poured out and when the Holy Spirit is poured out.
We yesterday when we read, we saw three groups of people the mockers, the amazed and those who will participate in and for those who are participating and for those who are in hearings Peter stood up and have the very first ceremony of the church, this is the very first sermon to ever be preached for the church.
So let's start with 14. Then Peter stood up with the 11. Raised his voice and addressed the crowd. Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem. Let me explain this to you. Listen carefully to what I say.
These people, you, these people are not drunk as you suppose. Remember, everybody speaking other languages and they can hear different tongues and the interpretation, I suppose from the crowd was that these people were drunk.
So Peter stood up and he speaking and addressing the crowd and everybody who was in there. You know, this is what was spoken by the Prophet Joel. So he brings this prophetic word and he confirms this is it.
This what you are seeing and what you are hearing is the prophetic word that was spoken in Joel generations ago. We are seeing it now so which means that Peter and everybody who is in the earshot knew about the prophetic way that was released by the Prophet Joel. And that means Peter and the group had read about these scriptures.
They've been taught about these scriptures about the prophets. And now, he says, this is what was spoken by the Prophet Jonah in the last days. Again, this confirms to us the last days started after Jesus.
He had ascended. God says in the last days I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and your daughters will prophecy. Young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. So for all of us when we are praying or when we are teaching our sons.
We need to pray and we need to teach them that part of your responsibility being in church is that you have sons and daughters have to prophecy. Young men will see visions. Young, old your old man will have dreams. Even on my servants both men and women I'll pour out my spirit in those days and they will prophecy.
This also addresses the issue that the church sometimes has struggled with. The role of women in church. You can see it right here. God says I’ll pour out my spirit in those days and both men and women will prophecy. I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below. Blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, everybody who will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Fellow Israelites, listen to this. Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs which God did among you through him as you yourselves know this man was handed over to you by gas, deliberate plan, and for knowledge and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the outgoing of death because it was impossible for death to keep his hold on him. David said about him, I saw the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore, my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices. My body also will rest in hope, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead. You will not let your holy one see decay.
You have made known to me the path of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence, fellow Israelite I can tell you confidently that the Patriarch David died and was buried in this tomb is here to this day that he was a prophet.
He knew that God had promised him knowing that, he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was to come is talk of the resurrection of the Messiah that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.
God has raised this Jesus to life and we are all witnesses of it, exalted to the right, head to the right hand of God he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, and has poured out what you now see Here.
For David, did not descend, did not ascend to heaven. And yet, he said, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies the force to for your feet. Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this. God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles brothers what shall we do? Peter replied, repent and be baptized. Everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The promise is for you and your children. The promise of the Holy Spirit is for us and our children. And for all who are far off. For all whom the Lord our God will call. So if you get called by God his promise is for you and your children. With many other words, he warned them and he pleaded with them.
Save yourselves from this corrupt generation in other words, corruption that we see today has always existed. This is not new and we have to save ourselves from this corrupt generation.
Those who accepted this message were baptized and about 3000 were added to their number that day. Unbelievable preaching power of the Holy Spirit. Simple but extraordinary.
The spirit of God rested on Peter, and he praised the first message for the church and that message got 3000 people to salvation. Good teaching, good preaching, accompanied by the Holy Spirit, cuts people's hearts and causes there to be salvation.
That's why the scripture says how can they be saved unless somebody preaches? The church grew with 3000 people after Peter preached full of the Holy Spirit. This is the precedence that God said for the church. Good preaching cuts the heart.
It causes people to ask the question what then must we do? Incredible phenomenon message. There's nothing to add to it, nothing to subtract because Peter crosses and all the keys, he goes all the way back to confirm the prophetic word.
That in your will the prophet gave for all of Israel and all of us, that in the last days. God will pour out his spirit on all flesh and the last days were activated by the coming of Jesus and we are still living in them.
And these promises that we see in this first message that Peter Priest still stands today for you and I. The Holy Spirit is for all of us and our children to enjoy. And young men who have dreams. Young men who have visions. sorry, old men who have dreams.
Both women and men who prophecy, why? Because the Holy Spirit has come upon all flesh. So brothers and sisters the very first message for the church. You’ve read it, read it over and over again.
Understand the promises that you see in this message because it is the foundational premise in which the church is standing on. Remember we are part of an organization that is 2000 years old.
There is nothing new about the church. Every promise that the church has started way back then it's our role to study and receive this promises as we continue the job of edifying the church by being participants in it. God has already poured out his spirit.
So already the Holy Spirit is already in us at salvation but now we are asking him to fill us again. For the task and the job at hand, Jesus is coming. His church is rising up and one day he will present all of us to the Father as holy and acceptable.
So as we as our hearts here and our desires rises up because of what God has taught in us. May the Lord bless you, may the Lord equip you, may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding.
May the Lord continue to transform you by the renewing of your mind through the Holy Scriptures. May our fellowship together continue to enhance our standard of Christianity. Many are perishing., many are compromising, but I pray that you and I as we continue to soldier on.
May our hearts continue to yearn for the very true essence of who God is. May God put the same desire in you and your children and those who ever hear you proclaim this gospel. Pray for knowledge and understanding of the scriptures.
We pray, Lord, that your promises that young men will prophecy all the men who have dreams. We pray, Lord, that that would stand there are miracles in our hands because we are working with the gift of the Holy Spirit.
So, Father, we pray as we look ahead to Sunday with great expectation. Knowing that you are so very, you have already gone ahead of us. So we know you work for today and tomorrow. We know there are things that you have in store for us and we believe that we are here to do the work of the one who sent us.
So, Father, I pray for all of us in our efforts, may you bless us and we ask for your presence because we know our efforts have no meaning if your presence is not with us. Help us to turn away from wicked things.
As you follow the path of your righteous commands help us to value your statutes as we continue to fellowship with you and all the spirit and with one another. Grow us in every way possible. Prepare us for the things that we ought to do.
Now I pray for this fellowship and for those who have soldiered with us. That may you extend these promises to their children and to their next of kins, nephews and nieces included by virtue of us soldiering on.
May we extend these to those who are in desperate need of this gospel. I pray for those who are traveling. Getting on the roads to come down here to fellowship with one another. Make their pathway easy and comfortable as they ride to this fellowship.
We pray for an accident free weekend as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. We know there are many gathered all over this world this weekend. That are paying their attention towards the commemoration of this day.
We know and believe that you are doing something miraculous all across this world. And we are happy to be part of this number. We know it's not because of our weighty smarts that we find ourselves celebrating this day.
We recognize that the Holy Spirit has pushed us to this hour into this moment. So, Father, I pray for every gathering across this world. It's something we can and those who are paying attention to this particular day for the commemoration of Pentecost Sunday which is taking place in the year of Jubilee.
I pray for every person involved. May we get what our hearts are expecting from you. May we receive that which you are doing in the Earth this weekend. I pray, Lord, that as we lift our hands and lift songs of worship to the heavens.
May you answer accordingly to your riches in glory. May raise us up as the standard so that we somebody somewhere gets to believe in this salvation. Help our own beliefs. Help those and Father, I pray for those who have soldiered with us that might not be able to attend because of the challenges and life pressures.
I pray, Lord, that in their absence, wherever they might be. Extend this privilege of gathering as we know, our hearts are united in spirit. Send the Holy Spirit as they also enjoy with us. this day.
I pray for every idea. I pray for every scripture that will be read on this particular day. I pray for every participant. You know who they are, who know Lord who are in need and the seeking truth.
That God show yourself strong for we are desperate for you in this hour. Help churches this weekend for those who are paying attention to this day. If there are any pastors who might have forgotten about this day, remind them before Pentecost Sunday.
And once again, we place our children before you who we trust and know that your hand is on them. Now lead us into this day with all that you have in store for us. It is not your temptation continually deliver us from the evil one, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.
Brothers and sisters may the Lord bless you. May the Lord, open your eyes and your ears to receive which that he has promised for you and I in the church at large. Those who are traveling, travel safely.
Enjoy your time on the road may the journey be easy, comfortable. Travel with the Holy Spirit. Hear him proclaim his goodness on you. And may the Lord bless everybody else as we go to work and do all that we have put our minds to do today.
Claim your mercy this morning and go about your day with great expectation, knowing that the promises that God has for us are yay and Amen. May the Lord heal you if you are sick. May he strengthen you if you are weak. May he make you rich in every way imaginable. We shall talk and see each other tomorrow morning and have an awesome day.
