The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names
"Leviticus 20: 8 - Yahweh/Jehovah M'Kaddesh, The Lord Who Sanctifies, Makes Holy"
Good morning, good morning everybody. I hope you had a great weekend and ready for another week. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are blessed and we are grateful that you chose us, that your hand is on us.
We love you because you love us. That you make all things possible, even the things that we are unaware of, you are making them all perfect and work together just because you love us.
So as we gather this morning to study your words to devote this time with you. We have a clear understanding in our conscience that we want to start our day with you for we know you are the author, the perfector, the finisher of our faith.
So every day we want to recognize you in this moment, knowing fully well that we exist at your pleasure. So we thank you for your love and grace and all that you are doing in our lives in Jesus name, Amen.
Brothers and sisters today we are looking at one of God's names, Jehovah M'Kaddesh. The Lord who sanctifies makes holy. The Lord, who sanctifies and makes holy. In Leviticus 20:8 reads this and you shall keep my statutes and this is God speaking to the children of Israel, right says you shall, not you will.
No, I suggest you shall keep my statutes and perform them. I am the Lord who sanctifies you. You shall keep my statutes because I am the Lord with sanctifies. In other words, you keeping my status is because I am God, and I'm sanctifying you, not you doing it.
I am God, and I'm sanctify you, brothers and sisters we got to recognize that Gods ultimate goal is to sanctify us, to make us glory beings, that's what Adam was. He was a glory being before the fall.
He had no idea he shouldn't go there or he should do this. He was just a glory being. Then when Jesus dies, he shed his blood and then he is sanctified. Ultimately, the goal is for him to become.
That's why you see in John 17, even though Jesus was holy in John 17, he keeps repeating in his prayer to the Lord now Father, glorify me, glorify me. Why? Because in order for us to ultimately be in heaven, we have to be glory beings.
There's no blood involved. That's why the pierced Jesus side so he could shed his blood. So when he comes back and he walks the earth for 40 days. It’s because in those forty days he was a glory being. Glory being, that's where he was.
So now God's goal is to glorify us, for us to be glory beings. So it's a process when you get saved. The process of sanctification begins. So we are sanctified, but we are being perpetual and continuously being sanctified until we become glory beings.
This is done by God's grace. It’s not our own doing there is nothing that we have to contribute to this process. It is done by his own doing through the function of the Holy Spirit. That's why it was sent to purify us.
To get rid of some things out of us, now what's incredibly important is that God called himself that, everything I just explained, God says I am that. Jehovah M'Kaddesh. I am that I am the sanctifier one.
Now, brothers and sisters, when you really stop and think about it. That he makes himself the sanctifier through his grace and love that I am going to do in you this process of purifying you.
So that you can return to being a glory being and then he calls himself that because he wants our position in him to be righteous wholly. That's what he wants. That he names himself that. That that's my character to sanctify you.
So that ultimately the future stead of perfect holiness in believers is accomplished through my name.
So brothers and sisters, this I want you to think about the true essence of sanctification is actually a journey of spiritual growth, empowerment by God's grace that leads believers to become more like Jesus.
Where we are reflecting his character and purpose and that is God's name to sanctify, you and I. So we reflect Jesus characters in our lives. So this name that God gave himself Jehovah M'Kaddesh.
I am the sanctifier is telling the children of Israelite after they came out of Egypt. I am the sanctifier. And you shall keep my status because I am. So in other ways us keeping God's statues is not dependent on us being incredible at keeping God statues.
We keep God's statues because he named himself the sanctifier. That's how we are able to do what we do.
When you find yourself, when the Holy Spirit convicts you and you have to go and apologize, it's not because you're capable of doing it. It’s because the sanctifier in you empowers you to be that. That's why you see over there in Leviticus.
He's like, no, I am the Lord your God. You shall keep my statutes. Not because you can but because I am the sanctifier. Brought you out of Egypt. You can't do it by yourself. You can only do it because I am the sanctifier.
So brothers and sisters let's not make this process of sanctification complicated because we think or we believe that we can do it. We can't do it otherwise there's no need of sending Jesus.
But the interesting thing that I want us to get out of this is that God called himself the sanctified so that you and I understands without a shadow of doubt that it is his work. It is his work, not you and I, it his plan to sanctify you and I that he names himself the sanctifier.
So what I want us to do today because if you missed yesterday's Bible study, please go back and listen to it, and I'm going to listen to it too myself because. I'm getting a greater level of understanding on God's names and his relationship between him and us.
Because all these names are part of his process of sanctifying us and yesterday we talked about the Lord's Prayer. That in order to get to all the six levels of that prayer, you can't do it without hallowing his name.
So these names are incredibly important because they open up our minds to the totality of who God is in our life. And that is the key to understanding God and for us to grow in the knowledge of who he is. All Scripture sits on his names, his characters, all scripture.
It sits on his characters because when you understand what this Christian life is all about is moving us from to. From death to life, from seeing to holiness.
So when you think about what this Bible and this book is about is about behavioral change made possible by his names from sickness to healthy.
How do they accomplish that through his name Jehovah Rapha. From chaos to peace, how do you accomplish that? By his named Jehovah Shammah.
So you realize that this behavior change that we are all part of is because God has called himself by these names in order to enable that in us.
Holiness cannot be attained without God calling himself Jehovah M'Kaddesh, the sanctifier one. So we're going to keep it short today because I want you to really kind of sit in this.
So that we remove all the pressure we put ourselves to be holy and with a greater understanding that it’s God's grace.
And his name that he has given himself that. It’s so important to him that he named himself after the process that he moves delivers from sinful to purification. It's not you. It's not me. It's him that he named himself that.
So that when we call on God, so I want you to imagine when we call on Yahweh included in calling him in that call included in calling is all of his characters and his names. So you don't just get purified, you get healed, you get, you get you get peace.
He gives the totality of who God is. You can't have peace when you're sick. So it's the totality. So the sanctification is making us holy. So when we are calling on his name, we are including all his characters.
When we lift our hands towards heaven, we are calling on all these characters, and when he comes, he knows what needs to be accomplished in that moment. If it's sickness, if it's peace, if it's being sanctified and purified, so things can die in us. It's him.
So this morning I want you to just think about some of the things you used to do that you no longer do and you don't even know when it stopped. But you just know that I no longer do that.
Because God has sanctified you because that's who his name is. I used to be an angry kid when I was younger. Playing sports oh my God.
But I know that all the course of my life I've seen God take away and remove that and I don't know how he did it, but I just know that I was being sanctified to set apart for holy usage.
That's what he's doing to all of us and this is his, by his grace, by his name that is setting you apart for wholly usage. But ultimately, so that you become a glory being when your journey on this earth is done and he named himself that.
So, Heavenly Father, we thank you for your grace. We thank you for all that you are doing. Now, bless us as we seek in these names and as we go through this day, we thank you for all that you are doing and what you are going to do.
Now we ask that may you continue to bless us and may you continue to purify us through the name that you call yourself Jehovah M'Kaddesh.
We commit to this process because we know it is the outward plan that we have to bring us back to holiness and to the glory realm.
As we go through this day, bless us as we start this week, bless us. Give us today Our Daily Bread and may you continue to lead us not into temptation, but to deliver us from the evil one, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.
Brothers and sisters it’s in his name that we are purified. Call on Jehovah M'Kaddesh because he is the sanctifier and he says you shall keep my statutes because I am not because you can, because I am. May the Lord bless you.
