"Waiting On The Holy Spirit - Getting Our Hearts Ready for Pentecost"
"Acts 2:1-4 Coming Of The Holy Spirit"
Good morning, good morning, good morning everybody. I hope you had a wonderful evening and night well rested, ready for a whole new day that the Lord has made.
Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank you for this moment, we thank you for this season for this hour.
We thank you, Lord, that you are doing marvelous things around this incredible, phenomenal world. Their pockets of people are part of this Kingdom in different places, different countries joining in spirit coming together, fellowshipping and praying to the God of hosts.
And we know we're part of the number and we are grateful that we are playing our own little role here and that this is all for the purpose of seeing the manifestation of your Kingdom come to pass.
So, Father, as we play our part as we come together. We thank you, Lord, for what you have in store for us. We thank you, Lord, for all that you are doing for us.
We thank you, Lord, for all that you have set in motion for us and for everybody who is part of what we are doing so Father we bless you.
That as we look at these scriptures and as we prepare our hearts and our minds to fellowship with one another and to fellowship with you, we pray, Lord, that you continue Lord to grow us, to strengthen us, to multiply us in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
Well, today, brothers and sisters, we are in Acts 2:1-4. This is the chapter when the day of Pentecost came. They were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what filmed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and begin to speak in other tongues as the spirit enables.
The keywords that I want us to pay attention to is when the spirit enabled them, Spirit enabling them. Well, brothers and sisters, the Holy Spirit, as we have been looking at him and also this past Bible study on Sunday.
We recognize that he knows all things and he explains all things. Now, on the day of Pentecost, there were so many people who were gathered. From different places who spoke different languages, who also heard different languages.
The Holy Spirit in his infinite power and authority it shows that as promised why is he coming to empower believers and those who will be part of this incredible, phenomenal movement that is now 2000 years old and the things that took place on this particular day.
It was also a moment to signify how this movement will be part of many people groups from all over the world for different languages, and as the Holy Spirit enables the disciples to speak in other languages.
That also enabled people who were standing there to hear what their spirit needed them to hear in their own native languages. To show us how incredibly powerful the Holy Spirit is.
Now, brothers and sisters one of the things that have caused a lot of division and a lot of misunderstanding in churches throughout church history has always been this subject of speaking in tongues.
Some say it's a spiritual practice and I wouldn't want to categorize it as a practice because it's not something that you practice. It is a gift. It is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as we all know, the Holy Spirit has many gifts and one of the spiritual gifts is speaking in tongues.
On the day of Pentecost if you just described how various languages were understood by those who were present. Then in 1 Corinthians 12 roundabout there Paul discussed his speaking tongues as a gift of the Holy Spirit. It's a gift of the Holy Spirit.
But he also emphasizes Paul also emphasizes that it needed interpretation and the importance of this gift is for edification within the church. Jesus also foretold this in Mark 16. That signs would follow those who believe and part of the signs is included in the speaking in other languages.
So it is a gift. It’s not a requirement for salvation. It’s not a requirement for every believer. It is a gift that the Holy Spirit, whenever he sees fit for whatever reason, he will allow a person or somebody to speak in another language for whatever reason.
Maybe the reason they spoke in other languages on the day of Pentecost is so that other people who were not of Jewish descent could be hear what the Holy Spirit was saying in their own native language.
And I'm sure for those who were present, they were edified and felt included in this movement and this move of God that was taking place.
So it is a gift. It can be of personal edification. It can be for the church edification, more importantly Paul teaches why there is need for interpretation, because if spoken and there is no interpretation, then where is the edification?
Now, brothers and sisters it comes down to this. The Holy Spirit is a person, is an infinite presence of divine knowledge and wisdom. He does things that none of us can ever do. That's why he is unique.
That's why he carries with him gifts and he uses his gifts or gives his gifts to people at any given moment in time for the edification of those that need to be edified. He does as he wills.
You can conjure this up. You can try to push people into it. I've seen in my years in church. Where people have been hold or held hostage and push to speaking in tongues. It is a gift.
The gifts of God that it gives literally whenever he desires and chooses to do it. It's as much of a gift as much as love is a gift. It’s much of a gift. Spiritual speaking in tongues is as much of a gift as love and tender mercy. As grace, as much as a gift as grace.
So I want all of us to understand that the Holy Spirit in his incredible phenomenal wisdom and power and authority. He carries within himself giftings. Which he gives to those who need them for the service of the Holy Spirit that he wants to perform at any given moment.
If people are in depression, they need joy. So you get joy from the Holy Spirit, so a person will be filled or anointed by the Holy Spirit, in order to bring joy to people who need joy. So as for us as believers our job is to know when he is moving us in a certain direction in order to edify people.
For example, every Thursday I volunteered to go teach women who are recovering from drugs or just difficult situations at the Love Lady Center.
Every time I go to this center, you are dealing with people who are broken hearted. And every time I go, I always pray that the Holy Spirit give me the gift of inspiration. Because that's what those people need to find themselves back on the road again.
So understanding situations that we find ourselves in also help us to ask God for a gift that we need in order to help those who are in need. But once again the Holy Spirit knows all things and he sees all things, and he knows what needs to happen, when it needs to happen.
Our job is to be available for his usage. We don't grab hold of the Holy Spirit and use him. He knows all things, he knows what needs to be done, he knows what needs to be spoken and he fills people up for the task and job in hand. Are we all carrying the Holy Spirit?
Yes, because you can get saved and not have the Holy Spirit in you. The Holy Spirit is who in grasps you into the body of Christ. But there are times where he has to fill us up in order to perform duties for the edification of the church and God's people, that's who he is.
He carries within himself gifts and when he carries with himself gifts and equips us. We then produce fruit that others can eat from. He gifted the disciples on the day of Pentecost and give them utterances of speaking in other languages.
And what was produced in the disciples was inspiration for those who did, who of different descent could hear things that they also were hearing as Jewish people. That's how remarkable he is.
He is a person who knows all language. Not just one, he knows all languages because he knows everything that is there to know is the spirit of God and all this was designed for our enjoyment and for our benefit and for our edification.
How he does what he does, we don't know. But our job is to appreciate and to enjoy that which he decides to do at any given moment. I just got a text message earlier on this morning with an inspirational word from a pastor who does Morning Devotion.
And Vee just send it to me early on, I'm just listening to it. And he says this story, which I think is remarkable. Because in the story this man thought, he had failed on this particular day. He studied the church and when you started the church 1st Sunday of the first service went incredibly well, phenomenal.
2nd Sunday was the opposite of that and in his interpretation of the events was that well, I don't want to do this, if this is what it is, because I can't fake it.
But unbeknownst to him, there was somebody sitting in the service who were prayed that Lord show me today if this is a true man of God, and if he is, I'll follow him for the rest of my days.
And in answer to that prayer God made everything in that cell is extremely boring, that the man decided that he wanted to quit as a pastor because you could not fake it. Could not fake that the Holy Spirit was present when he was not.
And his actions are what these other men needed to see and to hear in order to commit his family and resources they desperately needed for this church to thrive and for God to do what he needed to do.
Again, because the Holy Spirit knows all things and he does all things as he wills. That's why there's that scripture in the Bible, Romans, All things work together for those who were called according to his purpose.
Why do all things work together? Because the Holy Spirit knows all things and he is able to make sure that whenever something is needed, a task is needed that it will be performed through the authority of God.
And the use of man through God's wisdom and power, and again on the day of Pentecost, what was needed on that particular day was for all these different people of different backgrounds and nations who were present to be included in this particular event so they could hear that we have entered a new era now.
Where the indwelling and the filling of the Holy Spirit is for all peoples and all nations. Hence they spoke in other languages. So brothers and sisters, we are learning, I am learning how vast the Holy Spirit is.
The person of divine Majesty. Who knows all things, he sees all things and he acts as he wills. He searches the mind of God and reveals things to you and I, so when Jesus said unto you are given the mysteries of this Kingdom.
The person who reveals or interprets the mysteries of this Kingdom, it is the Holy Spirit. The scripture we read in John last weekend. It says if Jesus says to the disciples, it is to your advantage that the Holy Spirit is sent to our advantage.
So brothers and sisters may we continue to grow in the knowledge of who he is. May we continue to attain wisdom through his inspiration as we grow as believers. May we enjoy his counsel as we go through difficult challenges and exciting moments in our lives.
Knowing that inspiration belongs to him. May we receive this spirit of joy, whenever we feel broken hearted. May we not rely to our own minds only, but rather lean on him knowing that we have an advantage. Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, our blessed Redeemer. Words cannot express the magnitude of who you are. You have set everything up in a way where it will benefit us as your children.
Jesus came and died to bring salvation for us to be reconnected with the Father and he ascended and you send the gift of the Holy Spirit. The divine person, who’ll explain everything to us. And it is to our advantage, according to the word, that he shows up.
So Father as we continue to look to the hills in our own efforts, sometimes we do things the wrong way. That you have sent us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us, to counsel, to inspire to give us wisdom, to give us language in order to bring understanding.
So that divinely we can continue to come together as you build this massive Kingdom. We thank you that we have been connected to people all over the world. Some we might never meet on this side of heaven, but through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
We know we've been engrafted into the body of Christ, with many people from all over this world. It is through the gift and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. May we never be found wanting.
Knowing fully well that we have this advantage in our midst. So help us, to develop incredible hearing for your word says whoever has an ear let him me hear what the spirit says. So I'm stuck our ears so that clarity comes.
We thank you God for these gifts, the promise that you send. We thank you for all that you are doing in us, through us, we know he is at work in us. We know he is eliminating some things in us. Such is his great power and authority.
So Father we lift our hands, we look to the hills where our help comes from. May you continue to bless us. May you continue to bless your people. This fellowship family is represented here, those connected to us.
May you use us to bring salvation to those who are in need of it. Use us to help those who are in bondage. See the light at the end of the tunnel. Now may you bless us as we go through this day.
Lead us not into temptation, continue to deliver us from the evil one. For thy is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever, Amen. Brothers and sisters, may we all have a wonderful day walk in expectation.
When you have little time, pray. And may the Lord continue to bless you and your family.
May you continue to be edified through the counsel of the Holy Spirit, may wisdom be part of your daily portion as we deal with all the complex issues of our world.
May you never be found wanting for this promise is ours, we shall see you tomorrow and may the Lord bless you.
