The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names
"Adonai - God's Authority And Lordship"
Good morning, everybody. I pray you had a wonderful night. You are well-rested, ready for another summer day, as we spend time with the Lord to start off our day.
Knowing Lord that our God now is an appointment with us and one of the remarkable things about God is that He desires to hear from us all the time.
So when we set appointed times with Him, I'm sure His ears are attentive to us so that He can hear from His children. That's why Jesus every morning will get up and go some place so that He can speak with the Father.
And we are doing the same thing and God is attentive to us. So we praise Him that He keeps our schedules and He makes His appointment with us. And today He's also waiting to hear from us. So let us go to the Lord in prayer.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your goodness and Your mercy toward us. We come to You this morning with a clear understanding that this time that we have set aside to fellowship with You and with one another, that Your presence and that You are attentive to us.
So we bless You and honor You that we now have this schedule that we follow, that we are assured of that Your ears are attentive to us. So as we fellowship with one another, continue to bless us in every way possible and imaginable.
We bless You and we honor You in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. Brothers and sisters, we are worshiping or a fellowshipping or are devoting this morning times between now and July around God's names. Our responsibility as His children is to know Him.
That's why the Scripture says we should grow in the knowledge of who God is. Growing in the knowledge of who God is allows our relationship with Him to flourish and it also prepares us for what is coming which is a life of eternity with Him.
So we need to grow in the knowledge of who God is. It's our responsibility. It divinely helps us in our growth and it also helps our lives in the way we relate with one another this world and Him.
So what the name of God that is unbelievably above more of them, is Yahweh, the word Yahweh. Yahweh is so holy that the children of His Israel not decided, pretty much prefers to use the word Adonai because there is so much reverence that is placed on the way Yahweh.
That Adonai almost kind of undergirds that name for lack of better word, fear of using the way Yahweh or a great respect that is placed on the way Yahweh. So almost it can be safe, they go with Adonai. But nonetheless, they all have reverence.
It's not one is better than the other, it’s just an incredible amount of respect is placed on the name Yahweh. So Adonai is kind of comes underneath that but still incredibly important and we should also incredibly close respect on it.
But the word Adonai means the lordship of God or master, authority of God, sovereign authority, master, lordship, Adonai. And brothers and sisters, as believers we have a responsibility to understand God's authority.
The lordship of God, master, the responsibility of understanding because it is really the basis of our relationship with Christ.
Authority means the right to command, enforce or obey. So when we, when you and I accept Lord Jesus, that's why he's called Lord Jesus, when we accept Lord Jesus, we are accepting the sovereign authority, the Adonai of God, we are accepting that He is master over our lives and everything that we do.
So when David wrote Psalms 8, he was writing from this understanding of the lordship and another master of God, which is Adonai. So this is what Psalms 8 says. If you read these Psalms, you kind of have a greater understanding of the word Adonai and the lordship of God.
This is what David says, oh Lord our God, how excellent is your name in all the earth. Who have set your glory above the heavens, out of the mouth of babes and nothing infants. You have ordained strength because of your enemies that you may silence the enemy and the avenger.
Then he goes on to say, when I consider your heavens and the wax of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have ordained, what is man that you are mindful of him? Says when I consider all that you have done, what is man?
What is man that you are mindful of me? And son of men that you visit him, some of all the things that you could do, you could visit me, because you have made him little lower than the angels and you have crowned him with glory and honor.
You have made him have dominion over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, even the beast of the field, the bird of the air, the fish of the sea, that passes through the past of the sea.
Oh Lord our God, how excellent is your name in all the earth, master of it all his authority spans everything that was ever created. He is the Lord, His Lordship is over it all. Now when it comes to us human beings, in Daniel 4, there is a meeting that is held in heaven.
This is during the time of King Nebuchadnezzar. The man who thought was the most brilliant human being to ever live. His belligerence almost was close to what the devil did in the heavens.
He exalted himself yet everything that he was and who he is and everything that he was over belonged to God. So during that era there is an angelic meeting that is held in heaven and then a decree was passed for 17 of Daniel.
It says by the decree of the holy ones which is the classification of angels and the watchers to the intent of the living so that we may know that the most high rules in the kingdom of man. His Lordship, master of it all, master of everything.
His authority spans everything that is ever created. And knowing that is so humbling that this sovereign God who is master of it all, who is Lordship, expands everything or everything else, who sees it all, who knows it all, nothing is hidden from him.
This God, he is mindful of you and I. The Lordship of God, that with all the transpires in the human heart, with all the transpires in our thoughts, the good thoughts and the bad thoughts, yet, with all that, he still let us live.
He is master of it all. He is Adonai, the Lord of it all. Brothers and sisters, this God who said, I believe that one of the battles that we have to win is the battle of knowing his sovereign authority.
Because not understanding can literally diminish who is in us. Not that we can diminish him, but for our own sake, we can diminish his level of authority over everything, his Lordship, over everything, we can diminish if we don't understand.
That's why as we are starting these names, I want you to imagine in this case, every single one of us at most, at most, we have two names. Your first name and most likely a middle name.
And like we talked about yesterday, your name usually defines the person that you will be. Now, God has plural names, and every single one of them possesses his character. Which means that he is so great that one characteristic trait is not good enough to define who he is, and he can have plenty of names.
Because he is so great that one name can not just do justice enough to define who he is. So as we look at these names, my prayer and our prayer should that Lord the expanse of who you are, may that broaden the scope of knowledge and wisdom that we have towards you.
So that our faith, that's the goal, that you and I faith continue to be enhanced knowing that it's impossible for God to fail. Because over the course of scriptures, we hear over and over again these names that define the gravity of who he is.
So that when we say the earth belongs to the Lord, we have a clear understanding of what that means. When we say that all humanity belongs to him, we have a clear understanding of what that means.
So that when we kneel down to pray, we understand what we are praying to and the authority that he possesses so that our confidence as we approach him is not diminished because of lack of faith.
But understand that this God, master of it all, knows and sees everything, is not confused, not trying to figure it out. He has his faculties in order and every name, playing its role in his character as he relates with the universe and all that was ever created.
Hence the name Adonai, the Lordship of God, the Master of it all. My prayer again is that you and I as we study these names, let the Holy Spirit continue to define the reverence, the greatness of who he is so that your faith, your faith, your faith, my faith is enhanced because we have a full understanding of who God really is.
You have always heard me say, when the objective of a thing is not known abuse is inevitable. Not having a full scope of who God is can inevitably diminish our relationship with him, especially from our end, not from his end, from our end.
But the beauty is that God is so loving that he is accommodating us in everything. That's why David says, who is man that you are mindful of him? With all that you have done and all that you have created, who is man that you are mindful of him?
Now, when you just think about everything that was ever created, from animals, the mountains, the nations, the rivers, the falls, things that are pleasant to the eye, that he laid everything showing his mastery in his creative process.
I mean, just think about the places that we people visit in this world, the mountains, people to go and see, the falls that people visit pay money to fly to and see. The northern lights, I mean, you just think about it.
When you go to Africa and you look up these skies and you see thousands and thousands of stars hanging in the heavens, everything in place, everything in place, because God is showing his mastery.
Hence, we call him Adonai, Lord, our Master. I want us to be encouraged that he is Master, does not make mistakes, intricately, extremely intricate and perfect in how he does, what he does.
But you think about our 8 billion people and everything one of us, we are different and unique in the way he designed all of us. Even twins, you could look at them and say, yeah, there's one thing that is different.
How do you make 8 billion people and not one, not two, look the same, same DNA, same, the two look the same. That's unbelievable mastery hence, Adonai, brothers and sisters, this month here, I want us to enjoy these names of God, because they define for us the qualities of his majesty.
Like, that's our Father, that we can look and say, unbelievable Father who he is to us. Amen. So let us enjoy his qualities. He made himself this way and named himself this way so that his children can enjoy the qualities of who he is to us.
These names that we are going to go through this month, they were given to you and I, so that at any given moment, based on what's going on, we can call him in order to enjoy any of his qualities.
Today we call him Adonai, the master of it all, who is furnished this world and everything that he ever created without any error or mistakes, everything to perfection. That's who he is.
So which means that when he does what he does through us, there is no error or mistakes. That's who he is. So Heavenly Father, we are grateful that you are Lord, our master. That is your sovereign authority has furnished this world.
Has furnished us without any error with every gift in place for the same purpose and manifestation of your kingdom. You are God of it all. Jack of all trades and master of all trades, you've shown us over and over again, that you do not make mistakes, that your Lordship is over everything that was ever created.
So we stand today amazed and we call you Adonai, the Lord, our Master. So Father, as we look towards your name Adonai, we look with joy and believe a greater understanding of your sovereign authority, knowing that as your children, it's part of our inheritance to enjoy these qualities for you and Father to us.
And as children, we look to you for all that you have given to us as an inheritance. So Lord God, we bless you around your name Adonai. We thank you that you don't make errors that you do everything well.
So we thank you as we go through all of this day. Help us in our journey as we look around that you are master of it all, as we enjoy incredible views. May our understanding of who you are, be enhanced, as we meet people of different periods and color, everybody unique in their own rights.
May our faith be enhanced knowing that your authority is over it all. So I pray, Lord, for your many blessings that comes with this name Adonai.
And I pray for every single one of us on this journey that above all else, your agenda is that our faith grows and that we continue to grow in the knowledge of who you are, for we know that we enhance our relationship with you.
So we thank you that you've given us all these names to call on you based on whatever we might be going through. So today we call you Adonai, Lord our master.
So as we go through this day, continue to show us your mastery and we will forever be grateful and may you continue to lead us not in temptation but continually deliver us from the evil one.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever, Amen, brothers and sisters, may the Lord bless you. May we grow in the knowledge of who God is.
The Lordship of our Lord, the master of it all, and may our understanding of who he is enhance our faith and our belief in him so that we are growing from faith to faith. May the Lord bless your families.
May the Lord bless the wax of your hands, may the Lord bless the wax of the one who send you, may you lack for nothing and may God supply all your needs according to your riches in glory.
And I thank the Lord for you and I bless your children and I bless your families and I bless all that is connected to you. May we all have an awesome day in the Lord in Jesus name, Amen.
