The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names

"Immanuel - God With Us"

Good morning, good morning, everybody. I hope you had a wonderful night, well rested, ready for another day. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning.

We know, we're supposed to devote time to you, to start our day in the right way, to fellowship with one another, also to fellowship with you and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But thank you for your guidance over the years.

We thank you, Lord, that even the times that we were not in a state where we were not devoting more time with you, you were always there. So we thank you that you know all things, you see all things and you have allowed us to do what we do.

So we thank you, Lord, that as you continue to give us strength that we will do our part, to seek you every morning, so that you give us direction and you give us daily bread. So we thank you for the new mercies that you have for us every single day.

We claim ours, as we devote this time to you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen. Brothers and sisters, in this month of June and over the way to July, July somewhere there, we're going to seek the Lord looking at his, around his names.

So we're going to study Gods names, we understand why they are, what they are, and why he has put them in scripture for us to follow. As we all know, the name of a thing usually defines what that thing is about.

For example, my name is Vi, and it means the seeker of wisdom and knowledge. And I never looked at it until I was older enough to understand what it means, and I realize why I do what I do.

I realize why I love to read, why I love scriptures, why I like to seek wisdom, why I like to seek knowledge, because it's in the name. So the name of a thing usually defines what that thing is about. So God has names that He has given Himself, and He has revealed those names to us so that we can have a better understanding of who He is.

So, in Romans 8:14-17, it says this, all who are led by God's Spirit are God's sons. So a person, every single person who is led by God's Spirit are God's sons. For you did not receive a Spirit of slavery to bring you back again into fear.

On the contrary, you receive the Spirit who makes us sons and by whose power we cry out, Abba Father, the Spirit Himself bears witness with our own Spirit that we are children of God and this is beautiful.

And if we are children, then we are also heirs of God and join us with the Messiah, provided we are suffering with Him in order also to be glorified with Him.

Oh my God, this is incredible scripture. So the Spirit of God, if we are following Him, all who are led by God's Spirit, here are God's sons.

So we did not receive a Spirit of slavery, but the Spirit we received brings us back, not into fear, but to the contrary, to receive His Spirit who makes us sons.

So now, think about this, we are in the Garden of Eden, Adam sins, God then reveals  himself. And here is a man who is speaking to God every single day of His existence.

Straight communication, line of communication, so clear, God says Adam does, that Adam sins God removes himself.

Then he sends Jesus to die on the cross so that we are brought back where to where we have this direct line of communication.

And now, in Romans, God says, if you are led by my Spirit, then you are going to be a son and that includes all of us female and men who we are sons.

He says, if you are led by the Spirit, then you are son. And the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, right, he brings you out of slavery, slavery from what? From sin. And he brings you out of slavery and that makes you a son.

And the Spirit, powers you and I to say, Abba, Father, this is how we can say, God is our Father, not because we know that He's our Father, it's because the Spirit, Holy Spirit, powers us to say that.

So you can't say, God is my Father, without the aid of the Holy Spirit. This is why you see people who are not saved, they find it hard to say, God, my Father. And the same Spirit, Himself, bears witness with our own Spirit, that we are children of God.

And if we are children, then we are heirs of God, and joined as with Christ on one condition. If we are suffering within, in order also to be glorified within, beautiful. So God is our Father because the Holy Spirit, empowers us to say He is our Father.

Now, we're not connected all together. Yesterday, we talked about the acceptable year of the Lord, that it is a season, it's not one just one single year, but is an era that started with Jesus coming to the earth.

His visitation kicked off this year of  unprecedented grace, redemption and deliverance. And part of the package was that God was reinstating Himself, even though He was.

But this time is doing the very thing that in contrary to what happened in Genesis, where He removed Himself, He stands, He says, God's love, He comes and then He stills Himself, and the Holy Spirit in the process.

Now Jesus or empowers us, not only just to do what He has called us to do, but in the empowers you and I, to now call Him again, Father, and bring us back from slavery, from sin, and then makes you and I join heirs with Christ.

This is how we receive His Kingdom, this is how we are part of His Kingdom, because the three-quarters children, it makes us call Him Father, and as you know, every child gets an inheritance from the Father.

So the world is with Jesus, this ability to call God, Abba Father, and then the Scripture says something so important to us, but anyway, that we are joined heirs with Christ on one condition, provided we are suffering with Him in order also to be glorified.

So we are not going to be glorified if we are not suffering with Christ. God, Abba Father, unprecedented grace, deliverance, in this acceptable year of the Lord, and then God says, Abba Father, on top of that, this sends Holy Spirit that you received in this unprecedented time, in this acceptable year of the Lord.

I am Abba Father, and the second name, we're going to join it with this Abba Father, you're going to look at Emmanuel, because these two names, Abba Father, you now call me Abba Father, to go back to what we lost in the Garden.

But again, remember God removes Himself in Genesis where He distanced Himself from mankind, makes that the return is made possible by Jesus Christ coming back to the earth.

When Jesus comes to the earth we then usher this incredible new era, when now the Holy Spirit has been given to us and poured to us, and part of his job, part of his job is giving us, you and I, the Spirit to call God, Abba Father. The second thing is Emmanuel, God with us, Emmanuel, God with us.

Now the name Emmanuel appears twice in Hebrew scriptures, in the New Testament, and also in the Old Testament, with this name, we see God's extreme love for humanity. In other words, I'm coming back now to dwell again with you, even though I might have removed myself back then in Genesis.

I'm coming back now to be with you now forever, so I'm going to call myself Emmanuel. Jesus is going to be called Emmanuel, God with us. So the first time this name Emmanuel appears is in Isaiah 7:14.

And it's part of a prophetic way that Isaiah spoke to King Ahas of Judah. At the time when Syria and Israel formed a coalition against Assyria, which was the region's greatest power. They wanted Judah to join their uprising against Israel.

The Prophet Isaiah offered council to Ahaz to trust in the Lord rather than to appeal to Assyria or Syria in Israel, who were threatening to invade Judah for refusing to join them.

They invited Ahaz to ask the Lord for a sign, to confirm the prophetic word, but the unfaithful King refused, having already decided to place his trust, not in the Lord but in Assyria.

In response, Ahas refused to trust God. Isaiah then proclaimed this, here now you house of David is it not enough to try the patience of human beings? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign.

This is the response of this prophetic, I'll give you a sign. He has the sign because of what he has done. Here is the sign, the virgin will be with child and give birth to son and will call him Emmanuel.

Shortly after that, Syria and Israel were soundly defeated. Exactly as Isaiah prophesied many years later, the southern kingdom of Judah was destroyed by Babylon and its people were taken to captivity.

Matthew's gospel recalls Isaiah's prophecy, now applying it to the child who will be born through Mary, the virgin, the throats of Joseph, the sign which was given hundreds of years earlier to an apostate King who was meant for people's God.

Brothers and sisters, in fact, without this story, without the King of Israel doing what the King of Israel did what he did. The Bible is not what it is today because out of that, we get the prophetic word that Emmanuel is coming.

In other words, God with us is coming. Why do we need these names? We need these names because it is God's desire that you and I have a greater understanding of who he is. Remember what the Bible is.

The Bible is the self-disclosure book of God to us so we can have a greater understanding of who he is which without what transpired in the garden we wouldn't know.

What Adam and Eve did if that was the state of affairs today that means you and I could not call God Abba Father.

Now that could we proclaim God with us, Emmanuel, God with us. So sending Jesus opened up so many things and one of the things that was opened up is to proclaim that God is our Father and we cannot do that without the Holy Spirit empowering us to calling Abba Father.

And in that too, he then sent Jesus to be with us so that the Holy Spirit is automatically poured out. So Emmanuel, God with us becomes a name that we forever call. In other words, we cannot say in manual, God with us without the Holy Spirit being internally with us until we join with the Lord.

We cannot. This is why we can say God will never leave us and all forsake us. How can we say that? Because the Holy Spirit was poured out. How can we say that?

Because the prophetic word was given that a sign is going to come and that sign is that a version is going to pregnant with a Holy Spirit.

And when it does, Jesus is reborn and that will be a sign that God is with us Emmanuel, God with us. So brothers and sisters, in this acceptable year of the Lord, this acceptable year of the Lord where grace, deliverance is available to many into us.

We are also able in this same era, in this day, the acceptable year of the Lord, we are also able to say Abba Father through the aid of the Holy Spirit and we are also able to say God is with us.

Now, I want you to think about this, right? People in the Old Testament, all those people that lived in the Old Testament, the greats, that we can place history with, they could not use the name God with us, Emmanuel.

In fact, this prophetic word was given in their time before the acceptable year of the Lord. So once we crossed over into the acceptable year of the Lord which started with Jesus showing up, in this acceptable year.

The unprecedented grace that was poured out allows us to now enjoy all of these qualities of who God is, where He is making Himself known in an incredible way that He never did before the Messiah showed up.

This is where you actually realize brothers and sisters that we really, people of our generation who are living in this acceptable year of the Lord, we have no excuses.

We should not have any excuses because what we, the benefits that we are enjoying through the shed blood of Christ.

That's why Paul says all those people will live back then before Jesus came, so they wish they had what we had. What we have as a generation is unprecedented guys, we are enjoying the qualities of God that many died without enjoying.

So literally for you and I, it's a privilege that we were born after Jesus came to the earth and that we have the unbelievable privilege where the Spirit guide us to call God Abba Father.

And the same Spirit allows to enjoy the fact that now we can see Emmanuel, God is with us.

This what Moses was asking the Lord for, says if you don't go with us, then we end going, so God had to show up so they could go. But we, in this era, we just know He is with us, we don't even need to ask Him to come and be with us so we can go.

He is already with us, He has already proclaimed that I'm coming to be with you. Instead of you asking, I'm just going to be there.

So we are so blessed more than all our forefathers who lived before Jesus coming, that we get to enjoy these qualities of who God is because of the aid of the Holy Spirit.

That's why yesterday we started with the acceptable year of the Lord so that we understand that in this year the benefits and the things that we have to enjoy far outweighs what was given to others in the previous generations.

So you and I, we should not have no excuse because we've been privileged. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we are grateful as we continue to discover the truth around the love that you have for us, we realize how blessed we are in this era, to walk with the Holy Spirit, to be able to address you as our Father, with full trust of knowing that you are with us.

And you will never leave nor will forsake us because that prophetic word in Isaiah was fulfilled. That Jesus will be called Emmanuel, God forever with us. We thank you for this privilege and honor.

We are grateful that as we continue this journey, we are comforted with the facts that you are always with us, never going to leave us nor forsake us. In spite of the things that we might do, that you forever, never, ever, ever push yourself away from us again.

Through the blood of Jesus in his death and resurrection which has shed this unprecedented level of grace and deliverance from slavery of sin. Now we stand proclaiming Abba Father in Emmanuel, God is with us.

So Father, remind us when challenges come our way. When we feel broken hearted, when we are not sure, when our understanding is hazy, comfort us with the knowledge of knowing that you are with us.

If we can call on the Father, but you will suffer and we will also be able to be glorified with you. That's why the Scripture tells us to count it all joy when we face trials and tribulations because it does something remarkable in us in turn.

And we know that all that we will ever go through is because you are with us. That we will find peace, comfort in the midst of chaos. So Heaven is Father in the few weeks as we study your name, as we get a greater understanding of who you are.

May you broaden our minds so that we get a greater understanding of who you are. May you strengthen us and we thank you for love that you have shown us time and time again. Now as we walk in confidence, continue to bless us, to grow us.

May through these challenges that we face, realize that we have a far more greater spirit guiding and leading us, that will give us this strength to overcome. We love you and we thank you Father.

Now continue to guide us into this day with all that you have been still for us to do. We bless you. We continue to look forward with great expectation, knowing Lord that you are never ever going to leave us nor forsake us.

But in everything that we do, you are always right there in our corner. So lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, for thine is the kingdom, the power in the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Brothers and sisters, we have an incredible privilege in this era to call God Abba Father, and to know that in Emmanuel, God is with us, is a promise to which that was lost in the garden, to where God restored himself in our midst, and never to leave again, because of the man Christ, Jesus.

Who now every single day of our existence, he continues to present us to the Father as Holy and acceptable, sitting on His right hand, interceding on our behalf, and advocating whenever the devil shows up, to accuse you and I, so that you and me remain Holy before Christ, before God.

This is why we accord the righteousness of Christ, because in Emmanuel is with us. May God bless you. May you have an awesome day in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
