The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names
"Judges 6:24 Jehovah Shalom -The Lord Our Peace"
A good morning, a good morning to everybody. I pray you had a wonderful night, well rested and God has spoke to you during the night and you are ready for another week and another day. Let us go to the Lord in prayer.
Heavenly Father, our blessed Redeemer, words cannot express the magnitude of who you are. We thank you for all that you have done and what you're still going to do. We thank you for being your children in you, being our Father, that you are concerned about our needs.
You are concerned about the things that concerned us. So we thank you for this relationship that we have with you that we can come to you anytime, any moment, anywhere and interact with you.
And we know that every single prayer that we pray. Your ears are attentive to it, so Father, as we lift your name this morning as we devote this time to you this morning. We are grateful that your ears are attentive to us so, Father we bless you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
Well, today we are looking at Jehovah Shalom the Lord our peace. This name is given to the children of Israelite in the Book of Exodus. There was a lot that was going on in terms of God giving them instruction on how to leave.
So when you think about leaving Egypt, they are leaving a very oppressive system. That it oppressed them for over 400 years, so in them is a culture of oppression where they don't know any peace. Everything is rugged, everything there to pay for and work for extreme conditions all the time.
So along the rules and regulations, along with principles and statues that God is trying to teach these people. He’s trying to get out of them Egypt and instill in them a whole different way of living altogether.
So you see, most names and laws are spoken of in the Book of Exodus because God is trying to instill in his people a new way of living. So hence we find Jehovah Shalom, in other words as you live this life now I want peace to be part of your culture.
Peace to be part of your culture. So today we're going to look at Judges 6:24. The name given by Gideon to the altar he built after the angel of the Lord assured him he would not die as he thought he would after seeing him.
So Gideon is an Angel and he thinks, Oh my God I'm going to die today. And angels says no, hold on. This is not what's going to happen. I'm here to deliver a message and he then builds an altar after that encounter and he called it peace.
In other words, I thought I was going to die, but now I am actually at peace. Building alter here to Adoinai. Gideon built an alter to Adonai and called it Adonai Shalom. To this day, it remains in 'Ofrah of the Avi'ezri
So Gilliam beauty and also there's another translation giving building alter to the Lord and called it the Lord is peace. The Lord is peace. The Lord is peace, brothers and sisters, the subject of peace, you see it throughout our scripture.
Jesus comes, reiterates it over and over again from peace be with you. To my peace, I give you. Let peace that surpasses all understanding be upon you. Brothers and sisters. Peace is part of the culture of this Kingdom we are part of.
We have to live in peace. It’s part of our status, is part of our values. It's part of what God wants us to live life. Well peace is not really the opposite of war. Peace is the calming effect that we get Jehovah Shalom that God gives to us as part of his name that when you call on me.
I'm going to come in peace and I am peace. So for you what you get when you call me is peace that surpasses human understanding. So it’s part of our culture. We have to live in peace.
We have to walk in peace. We have to believe that God has given us peace. For everything that we ever face and every situation we will ever find ourselves in because yesterday when we talked about the name of the Lord, is the strong tower the righteous run into it and find safety.
It means that as we run into the Lord, one of the things that we will find in the tower, that is, God is peace. Apart from all the things that God gives us. Peace is part of the culture of this Kingdom.
Hence Jesus when he is dying, he says my peace I give you. In other words I give you me. Now Jesus shows us in a lot of places how to be at peace. He’s in the boat and the boat is being tossed side to side by waves.
And he is sleeping in the midst of all that and when they wake him up in fear of what was going on. He asks, He looks at them and asked them why are you all worried? I'm here and I don't seem to be worried at all. I am sleeping in the midst of all this chaos because I am peace.
Then he comes the storm to show his disciples that he was peace. So when he says my peace I give you. He was talking about the ability to be still in challenges, knowing that God is peace.
That's what we want. Because Jesus already warned us that there is always there is going to be trouble in this world. There's going to be challenges in this world. You get out of one and another one is coming. You can't escape challenges.
But as part of our culture in this Kingdom, Jehovah Shalom is right there for every single situation and every moment you will find yourself in. So I want us to understand that culture, part of our culture in the Kingdom of God. His peace because he is Jehovah Shalom and Jesus says my peace I give you, I leave you with my peace.
Because in this world there is challenges and trouble. So when we call on God names especially this one. It needs to be part of our daily calling because we were already warned that there is going to be trouble in this world, but my peace I give you.
In other words I want you to walk the way I walked in the earth. So when the scripture, when so when Jesus says greater works, will you do than I did. Part of it is us walking in peace more than he did because we now carrying his spirit in us. Which enables us to work in peace because he is Jehovah Shalom.
So let us walk in peace. Let us understand that this is part of our culture, God gave us peace because this world is going to have troubles. It's our right, it's a gift from God. Peace that surpasses human understanding.
And I'm sure all of us in this life, we have experienced this where there is chaos around us and things are not going on well, but you find yourself at peace. Because you have a greater understanding that God is peace, Jehovah Shalom.
This is why we have scriptures that say all things will work together for those who love the Lord, who are called according to his purpose, that's an assurance. That hey, be at peace because whatever happens, I'll make sure all things work together.
So brothers and sisters Jesus already taught us my peace I give you. It's a gift that God gave us to walk in peace. It's our values, it's our statutes. It's part of our culture in the Kingdom of God.
We cannot walk any other way except being at peace even when challenges come that we don't understand, that's why the scriptures says peace that surpasses human understanding.
In other words, if you understand it that's a different kind of peace, but God’s peace it surpasses human understanding. Can't understand it, but you just know that you are at peace. That's what we want. That's how we want to walk because God has called himself Jehovah Shalom. The God of peace and he has given us peace as a gift.
So brothers and sisters, let's all exercise walking in peace and let's be at peace, because God is given us peace. Let us play. Dear Heavenly Father we thank you for the gift of peace. You already knew that this world will carry so much strife and challenges and troubles and you gave us peace as a hallmark of our faith.
So we thank you for that and we pray, Lord, that when challenges comes may you continue to remind us that you have already given us peace as a measure of our faith. So we bless you, Lord, for peace.
That even when challenges and the economy and all the things that are going on around us are happening. While others are in panic, you have given us peace that surpasses human understanding with even a greater understanding that all things will work together for those who are called according to his purpose.
We know we love you, we know we are called. So, Father, I'm praying that may the peace of God that surpasses human understanding rests upon each and every single one of us. As we run into your name, may we find peace at the door awaiting for our hearts and our souls to be at peace with this world.
I thank you for what you are doing in us, through us, through our families and children. We pray for this same peace to now govern our children in everything they do. We know they are being bombarded left and right with so many different agendas that are being thrown to them by this world.
And we thank you that they have access to this peace. A peace that surpasses human understanding that calms their souls and minds from pressure and anxieties and all the things that are being thrown at them.
We bless you, Lord, that they are an extension of us and what we get as parents, they get too. But I pray Lord, that in their relationship with you, may you remind them that peace is part of the culture of this Kingdom. We know all of us want peace but God we receive your peace and we thank you for being Jehovah Shalom.
We thank you, Lord, that your name as we run into it, what we will find at the door is peace that surpasses human understanding. Now, as we go throughout this day, remind us, remind us of peace. Remind us that you have given us peace. That is part of our culture and is part of our Kingdom.
So we thank you for this week that we are starting and Father, we remain excited for what you are doing and we remain walking in expectation knowing that God can do anything anywhere, anytime, any moment.
So we are working with eyes and ears that are attentive. Thank you for fulfilling our needs according to your riches and glory. So as we go through this day, we walk in peace because you gave us and for the rest of our days, we want to walk in peace.
So we pray now, Lord, that may you lead us not into temptation, but continue to deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen. Brothers and sisters part of the culture of this Kingdom is to be at peace.
It was given to us as a gift. Jesus left us his peace so that we can navigate this world with treacherous terrain in confidence knowing that all will be well because God is Jehovah Shalom. May the Lord bless you. May you have an incredible phenomenon Monday and may the rest of the week be so blessed in Jesus name, Amen.
