Thus Says The Lord-Who God Says He Is, His Commandments and Promises
"Genesis 15:1 The Word Of The Lord Came To Abram"
Good morning, good morning, everybody. I hope you had a wonderful night, well rested and ready for another week. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning.
We thank you for your goodness and your mercy towards us. We thank you, Lord, for all that you have done and what you're going to do. We come before you this morning to devote this time to you so that you can speak to us so we can commune with us with you so that our soul can rest in you.
Knowing, Lord, that this day is already being governed by you. So as we flow into it, give us insight and revelation for the day. So that we can work in your path. Thank you, Lord, for being our sovereign God.
And for us, being your children and lead us in all things, right and in all things true, we pray this prayer in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen. So brothers and sisters for the past week, we've been talking about God's presence and why it is important to be in God's presence and as we know in his presence, there's fullness of joy.
And it is right here in their pleasures forevermore. We're going to move along and get into the word of God. Thus says the Lord thus says the Lord now brothers and sisters. When you look throughout scriptures God has already is always spoken at different places and different junctures.
Either to address things or to move things along, or to give someone a word of what's coming. So most times when you are looking at Scripture and you see the word thus says the Lord or the word of God came.
That means God loves us so much that he is always trying to give us direction in everything that we do. And most times is through people, most times is through scriptures or sometimes it's just through a friend or somebody giving you a message or somebody sharing with you what the Lord spoke to them about.
For example this morning I'm leading prayer devotion. You guys don't know what I'm about to share. But what I'm about to share with you is something that I looked at yesterday, so which means this word, this teaching this morning is coming to you.
Even though you're hearing it for the first time, but it already has been on a journey since yesterday. So we're going to look at Genesis 15. The very first chapter, the very first passages of scriptures. Genesis 15:1 says this after this after what? Abraham had just met the King Melchizedek and he had an encounter with God.
And God is about to cut a covenant with him. So in 15, he says, after this the word of the Lord came to Abraham in a vision. Do not be afraid, Abraham I am your shield. Your very great reward.
You don't say to somebody do not be afraid unless they are afraid, or unless there's potential that they will be afraid if they hear something. But the key thing that we want to look at it is that the word of the Lord came to Abraham.
Now, brothers and sisters, as you look into the Old Testament, every time you see the word, the word of the Lord, the Lord came, the word of God came. Most times it's in reference to who Jesus is going to be.
You don't find this terminology in the New Testament. You will see it most times in the Old Testament. This phrase indicates that God is actively communicating with somebody. Is either he's giving a prophetic voice or a prophetic utterance to what's coming and it also underscores the authority.
It underscores his authority that what he's about to say is important, and this word is come to you. Now when Jesus comes he starts living in our heart. Which means the word of the Lord is always present with us, always present.
That's why it says in the beginning was the word and the word was with God. Who is it implying to is implying to Jesus. So what I want us to get from todays teaching is that most times when the word of God comes it’s coming to address something, it’s coming to encourage somebody or is coming to give you insight to what is coming.
Now, have you ever wondered when a friend or somebody randomly texts you, something like early morning today I received a text message with the video of somebody did a few a pastor who did this video a few, I don't know whether probably today and it was encouraging.
Now the thing that we need to ask ourselves when that happens is why am I hearing this now and in this moment? It simply means that God is trying to relay a message to you.
If you receive a text message or receive an e-mail from somebody with an inspiration word. We sometimes don't look at this part that God is trying to get a message to you. If somebody shared something with you.
Hey, I was up in the morning and I read this and I thought of you. That simply means the word of God is coming to you. There is something that God is trying to tell you and God is in the business of informing us of things that we need to fix, things that we need to correct or encouraging us to do certain things.
In the Old Testament this phrase appears a lot of times, and the word of the Lord came to Abraham and the word of the Lord came to Joshua and the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Jonah, Hagai.
Why? Because God was trying to give them a message to fix, to correct, to encourage, to inspire someone. Now when Jesus comes he comes and stays in our heart. Says Christ in us the hope of glory. That means he is forever speaking.
That's why the scripture says the Holy Spirit will cancel you, will correct, you will give you inspiration word at every juncture of your life if you are listening. The problem with us is not that God is not speaking. The problem with that is that we don't listen.
The problem with that we sometimes are looking for clarity when clarity has already been given. He promised I will never leave you nor forsake you. Which means that there is nothing you are going to do in this world that God is not invested in or his presence is not there.
But we can miss it because we are just not aware that God is invested in everything that we are doing. So God loves us so much that he gives us information and direction even before the things happen.
If we are all to admit, there's a lot of times when the Holy Spirit comes and gives us instruction of what we need to do. And most times we just don't listen or take heed. I want us to get in the habit.
That when the Lord speaks, we execute. Most of our challenges in life happens not because we do not listen, hence in the New Testament says whoever has an ear let him hear what the spirit of the Lord say.
So which means the spirit of God is constantly speaking to us every day. It's a promise that was given to us and through the aid of the Holy Spirit, God is constantly speaking because he promised that I'll never leave you nor forsake you, I will send you a helper.
He doesn't say the helper comes when things are bad. The helper is always there. He is never going to live near forsake so which means there is nothing that God that you will ever do that the Holy Spirit is not giving a voice to, absolutely nothing.
If we pay close attention, you can hear him even in the middle of cooking. You're putting too much salt. Simple little things. Hey, don't go this way. Simple little things. But I want us to pay attention closely to when somebody somewhere sends you something.
They are not doing it because they are bored. They are doing it because the word of God is coming to you. And thus we need to pay close attention and thus we also need to fall in love with what God is saying.
Remember when you see the wordl of the Lord comes to it means that word loves you before you love it. And when it finally does. Our response is to love it back and execute what it is that it is instructing us to do or inspiring us to do. God is invested in everything that concerns you.
Even the most little and simplest or intricate things he is invested in it. Because you are his and I am and he is ours. He is a Father and we are his children. So everything that we do is invested in. And the best way to understand God's investment in everything that you do is always through the relationships that we have with our children.
We want to know everything they are into and we are into everything they are into. We will do anything for our children. So is God, he would do anything for you. He will be there with you every single moment and you will make sure you learn his voice if we just dare to listen.
The problem is that we do not hear. That's why this scripture again says whoever has an ear let him hear what the spirit of God is saying and the spirit of God is constantly speaking.
So we need to take heed. Doing is that's why James says, be he the doer of the word. In other words, when the word of the Lord comes to you, make sure you do it and execute. Make sure you walk in it. That's why sometimes we you know, we question whether God is with us or not. He is always with us.
When we find ourselves questioning whether God is with us in situations or not. The question should be God, am I hearing you or not. Not is he with us or not? He's always with us. He promised that and his word is yay and Amen.
And is same yesterday and tomorrow. So it's not that God is never with us, he’s always with us. The biggest challenge we have is always our hearing. You have heard me say numerous times that if a child is speech impediment when they take him for examination at the hospital.
They usually check ears first before they check their mouth. Because the question is what are they hearing? Because we can only speak what we heard. And God is constantly speaking and he wants us to repeat what he is saying in as much as we want our children to have our characteristic traits.
So God speaks, we hear we execute, then we stay in alignment with him. Our problems always emanate from our hearing. So there is hearing but then there's also hearing the correct thing. Because you can hear and hear wrong way.
So we always the thing that we need to master and continue to working on is our hearing how we hear and whether we are hearing the right thing. Because if you hear the wrong thing, your interpretation will be wrong, which means we end up in the wrong destination.
If you hear the right thing and your interpretation is right, you get the right destination. Our challenges and our problems most times comes from our hearing. If you know better, you do better. If you hear well, you'll do better if the instructions are clear, you execute the right way.
If the instructions are not clear now on our part God is always clear. He’s never wrong. He never makes mistakes. He never says things out of character. He never says things that are half true. He never near nor there. What his word is, is what his word is, it does not change.
If he says I love you, that's what he means. It’s the interpretation that is wrong. So I want us to improve the way we hear the word pf the Lord. Not question it, not judge it, not try to figure it out.
But here and execute our job is to align our hearing and to align our execution to what he is telling us. Otherwise, we're going to spend a lot of years trying to fix what God has already told us years ago to fix and he’s waiting on us to hear well and to execute well.
Again let us play close attention when somebody somewhere randomly sends you something. It's not because they are bored and it's not because the Lord doesn't have anything better to do, its because the will of the Lord has come to you. Love it, respect it, honor it, execute it.
Because in it is God's wisdom about where you need to be from where you are. So every time somebody sends you something, be it in a text message or just say, I was thinking of you and the Lord says I should call you.
That means that's the word of the Lord coming to you inasmuch as we read this scripture. After this, the word of Lord came to Abraham. So brothers and sisters, let's improve our hearing and let's improve the quality of our execution in what God is telling us and what God is instructing us to do.
Be he doers of the word that what James says and then James also says sometimes when we ask, we ask a miss. We don't have because we don't ask. But when we ask, we ask a miss, now the thing about asking also demands that you hear, if you abide in me and I abide in you, you can ask for anything.
But in order to ask the right way, you have to hear first. Otherwise you would ask for the wrong thing. And that's what we do most times, we ask for the wrong thing. And God says that's not what I want you to ask for.
I want you to ask what I'm telling you to ask you ask for because I know what the path is and I know where you are going and you don't. So hear me first because I will give you the desires of your heart. So God gives us the desires first.
So in other words, he makes us here first then tells you to ask him what you heard. Don't we do this with our children? What did I tell you? Because you are asking them to repeat to make sure what they heard is the right thing.
Then we can presume with the conversation. And God is looking for us to do the same thing. What did I tell you? Oh, this is what you said. Now you ask based on what I said to you hence you can abide in me and I can abide in you then you can ask for anything.
So brothers and sisters thus says the Lord. The word of Lord is always going to come to us. This God is concerned about everything that you do and everything that concerns you. And he is always speaking, always his spirit is always in conversation with us.
The question is, what are we hearing? Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your goodness and your mercy. We thank you that you love us dearly. We thank you, Lord, that you are so concerned about our lives.
And about doing what you desire for us to execute in this lifetime. So, Father, I'm praying that as you speak that may we improve the quality of our hearing. Our desire is to hear you loud and clear and we know we live in a very noisy world.
So many agendas and so many things coming at us. But Father, our reliance, we want it to rest upon your voice because you know all things you see, all things you are never late. You are always on time.
So I pray, Lord that may our hearing be improved through the aid of the Holy Spirit. Help us to know what your voice sounds like. Help us to know what she was saying to us and help us in our interpretation.
So that we don't land in the wrong destination. Father, we thank you for all that you have done in our lives and what you're still going to do. I pray that God in this day, as we journey along every idea and every agenda you hear for us today.
May we hear it and execute it the right way. Thank you for the Holy Spirit. The Council, in our spirit, a friend who was always there, always constant. And I pray Lord may our antennas go up whenever we receive a word from the Lord.
Knowing that that word loves us before we love it. I pray, Lord, that what we are desiring to be in you may that be extended to our children too. We lift our children before you knowing Lord they are growing up in a treacherous world.
May their hearing be improved as they continue to hear the words of the Lord. From us or from the scriptures. Bless our children protect them from harm and danger. I pray Lord, even now, as they're getting ready to go back to school.
We pray for angels on assignment to accompany them in everything they do. Shut their ears from the voice of the enemy. Let the only voice they hear be yours. We thank you for wisdom to us parents as we teach them in the ways they should go. Give us visions and give us wisdom to execute on behalf of you that you want us to execute for our children.
Protect them from harm and danger. Even Father, as they wind up this summer break and getting ready to go to school, refocus them on the things they need to focus on. We put a hedge of protection around them as they interact with different ones in school and different teachers and different agendas that are being thrown at them.
We filled them for Christ. We have already dedicate them and we are going to continue dedicating our children back to you because we know in your hands they are safe, accounted for and every gift accounted for in the name of Jesus.
Transform our hearing. Help us in areas where we need help. Challenges in areas that we procrastinate. We thank you for wisdom because it is the principal thing. And I pray, Lord, that may that be our daily portion as we continue to navigate this challenging world.
Thank you for loving us, thank you for giving us direction. Thank you for whispering in our ear, inspiring us in the things that we should do and I pray Lord that as we continue to execute your agenda for the Kingdom, may you bless every single one of us in everything that we do, bless the works of our hands.
Bless the works of the one who sent us in our interaction with one another. May we be the voice of encouragement, the voice of love. May we be an answer to somebody's prayer. May somebody get to believe in you through us.
Help us to seize the opportunities to minister to another so that they can be part of this Kingdom too. Thank you for our families. Thank you for extended families and I pray, Lord, that what you have put in us may that be a light and salt to all of the crooked places in our lives and in our families in the name of Jesus.
Help us to be the voice of reason in challenging times. Father, I thank you for all the people you have placed in our lives to speak the word of the Lord to us. Now we pray that above all else continue to give us Jesus.
Above everything that we do, when we look to the hills where our help comes from. I pray that may you lead us not into temptation, but continue to deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.
Brothers and sisters always remember this one thing in your hearing God always speaks first. Satan stick second to contradict what God has said. You always pick third last trying to make sense of what God said or what satan is saying.
But God always speaks first. Because he knows all things the devil does not. The devil can only know what God has said or what has been said and then he contradicted to confuse you and then your voice comes to interpret what God has said, or what the devil says.
What remains for us is always the choice. So my prayer is that may you choose his voice all the time. May the Lord bless you, may the Lord bless your families.
May the Lord bless everything that you're connected to and that you are trying to do and may God give you victory today in everything that you put your hands and your minds to do. We will see you tomorrow and have an awesome, wonderful day in Jesus name, Amen.
