The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names
"Psalms 18:1-4 Yahweh Tsuri -The Lord is Our Rock"
Good morning and good morning to everybody. I hope you had a wonderful night. You're well rested, ready for another day. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we bless you this morning. We thank you for your everlasting presence.
We thank you for the promises that you have made to us that are yay and Amen. They are never changing. They are always going to be there as long as we are in this world and in this life until we return home to be with you.
So we are grateful that you love us. We are grateful that you see everything and we're grateful that you are steadfast in our lives, constant always there. We're grateful that we can run into you any moment in time and find all that we need in you.
So, Father we bless your holy Matchless name. We bless you for what you have named yourselves in order for me to meet all our needs. So this morning, as we look at one of your names continue to remind us of the importance and the wisdom of understanding these names so that our lives are constantly enhanced.
As we live out this this life in this treacherous world, thank you for this day that you have given us an opportunity to fellowship with you, to fellowship with one another, to fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
So we thank you, Lord, that as we set our eyes on you. Illuminate your word, strengthen our faith. Strengthen the causes that we carry in our hearts and we are forever grateful for who you are into our lives.
Now as we look at this word, bless us in Jesus name, Amen. Brothers and sisters, you know, I woke up early today and I was just kind of going, just thinking about all that's going on around us. And thinking about, you know, loved ones family members, some that are not so well not doing so good and just all just general life stuff.
And it's only when I started looking at this name here that you know, I kind of realize the joy of the Lord is my strength. That God has a way of making things plain and understandable to us. So as I was looking at this name I got what I needed to uplift my soul.
So today the name that we are looking at is Yahweh Tsuri, TSURI and this name here made me happy for a number of reasons. I'll just read the Scriptures, then we'll go into it ok. So we are in Psalms 18:1-4.
This is what it says. I would love you Lord. I will love you oh, Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God in whom will I trust, my shield in the whole of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies. 2 Samuel 22:1-4 then David spoke to the Lord. The words of this song on the day when the Lord had delivered him from the hands of his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
And he said the Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverance. The God of my strength, in whom will I trust? My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior.
You have saved me from violence. I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from my enemies. Then Psalm 62:1, Truly, my soul silently waits for God from him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation. He is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved. The keyword out of these scriptures that I want to that we want to kind of focus on is the word stronghold.
Remember, we kind of talked about strong words. I think a year ago and the way we approached were strong hold was kind of a fortified place. Where your mind is steadfast on in and movable thoughts.
Where it becomes a strong hold and we talked about strong words being you know you're thinking methodologies that refuse to change. So if you have fear and somehow it plagues you for years and even decades.
It becomes a stronghold. It's something that's set in your head that you have to fight. So David is saying the Lord is, you know, the Lord. My rock is my stronghold, in other words. He is said in my mind as this rock that's immovable and that's what drives my culture and my thinking the way I do things.
So that's Jehovah Suri now very interesting thing that came to me this morning and I had forgotten about this. So the word Tsuri, is also a Shona word and in my country, sorry is a rock, you know?
If you look at the letter Y people make an object out of it from a rock called the Granite. Just like the letter Y, but it's probably the size of lengthwise human legs probably maybe 2 meters high. And is also and on the other hand it has also a board. A kind of like a crushing stick made out of a board or two.
So it's 2 granite objects that are separate, but they are used for crushing things. Just like the mortar and the mortar and pestle that's used in the kitchen. But in Zimbabwe, it's kind of made out of a massive rock, granite.
It takes years and years to make one of those things I'm talking about maybe 2-3, four years, just trying to smooth and make it so that it's usable. And so that it can stand the test of time. And I believe my grandmother had one of those that when I was born, when I came to my sense maybe five years old.
That thing was there and it was there and until even, I think 2018, when I went over there, I saw it. It was still there. Incredible Fortress, and they've used this thing over and over again every year.
It's used pretty much almost every month, but it's stood the test of time never cracked. It's always there and that thing is called Suri in Zimbabwe because it is a formidable force in what it does and it uses force and it can stand.
I'm talking about decades of usage. And it's also made out of granite and it's called Suri. And white, Suri in Hebrew is the rock. Where God is the rock strength, a formidable force that that's immovable. That stands the test of time cannot be challenged.
You can use it over and over again and it will stand. And the interesting things about rocks guys. I come from a country where there is incredible phenomenal rocks and my perspective of this name today actually has been challenged because the view I have of rocks usually is usually the same view that you possibly have for God.
For Suri, if anybody mentions rocks to you. Now the interesting thing about Zimbabwe is that it has incredible formation of rocks. That are unbelievable. There's a region in my country called Matopos.
Where you have balancing rocks. These are not men made this. I don't know how God did this, but they it's a whole entire area, probably the size of Birmingham, of Alabama, pretty much and you have these rocks that are sitting on top of each other.
And they don't fall. I'm talking about massive borders sitting on top of each other, maybe 123456 on top of each other and they are balancing, wind comes, rain comes and they have been standing like that for centuries.
And it's a geological formation that is all over the place. And in my grandmother's village 40 miles from their village is a massive border. That's the size maybe I could say 2 miles long. It's just a massive border.
You can see it from 40 miles and that thing there's no trees that grows on there. There is no vegetation that grows. It's just a massive border and from a distance you can see the lines that have been formed because of rain.
You know, just streaming down this border and that rock is named Suri. In honor. I don't believe it was because somebody taught them Hebrew and named it Suri. I guess it was just God's way of showing his presence to people who have no idea of Hebrew.
So this border is named Suri and from 40 miles you can see it's just standing like a massive pillar. So when I was looking at this name, it made me so happy to think of God as he calls himself Suri the rock.
That shows strength formidable and that is bold and I'm talking about since I was a baby visiting my grandmother to now every time I go over there, it's a marvel to look at, it's this huge, massive and it reminds me of God being Suri.
My strength, my rock, unmovable and changing constant always there. That there is nothing that surprises him. He is formidable in his makeup that you can approach him, you get the same answer.
You approach him tomorrow, you get the same answer. You're approaching the day after you get the same God, never changing. He's not trying to figure it out. He is not trying to put it to piece it together so that he makes up things as he goes.
He is just formidable, a constant force where if you go again and again and again and again, you get the same love, the same answer, the same level of reverence. You'll get the same thing over and over again. That's the God we serve.
That we will go up highs and down lows and we will find him standing there constant. That's why I keep on saying to myself now, it's impossible to fail. If we believe in this God, it's impossible. Because of his character. That he is Jehovah Suri, strength.
So when David is writing this song he is writing because of experiences. This man has gone through so much by this point of his life. And through all of his experience he has seen so much and been challenged so many times. And the answer he gets when he runs to God has always been the same.
Always been the same, hence he can now say he is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my shelter, my shield, power and he saves me. He is my stronghold. In other words, my culture is formed out of the fact that he is.
And then he says in Psalms 62 my soul waits in silence for God alone, my salvation comes from him. He alone, he alone is my rock and salvation my stronghold. And his response David says and I won't be greatly moved. Says I'm not going to be moved by things that I see.
I'm going to walk by faith because I believe that this is the one I save. This is the one I love who loves me too, that he is a rock. He's a fortress. He's a deliverer. His my shield his power, his stronghold. And in him I find constant answers.
That makes my life secure and safeguard, Jehova Tsuri. Brothers and sisters. It seems like all the names that we are studying you need to know all of them.
They are so important because they are showing us the level of consistency that God has in his love for you and I. That he is so much into us that he names himself in order to challenge every problem that we'll ever face. And David is speaking from that perspective because he has experienced Jehovah Tsuri in his life.
That's why he can say, oh, I will love you oh Lord, my strengths. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my strength in him, whom I will trust, my shield and the horn of my salvation.
My stronghold, I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised so shall I be saved from my enemies because he is my rock. That's why the scripture says the name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous run into it and find safety.
So, brothers and sisters, Jehovah Tsuri, and I think on Sunday I'll, I'm going to see if I can find some of these images I'm talking about these borders in Zimbabwe and hopefully can enhance our minds on who God is.
I mean, think of the Yosemite Valley, that massive border that's standing in the northern part of America, it's just massive. God is bigger than that. It’s massive rock of strength and power, can’t be moved, let us pray.
Heavenly Father we thank you for being the rock. The Horn of our salvation, our fortress, our deliverer. We thank you that you have established yourself as the force for our lives, a place where we can find refuge and safety.
A place where we can find strength, confidence and character. We thank you that you have made yourself available to us in spite of our sinful nature that through Jesus you made a way for us to reconnect with you any moment, anytime.
In spite of the sinful nature that we carry because Jesus is constantly presenting us to the Father as holy and acceptable, so we stand acknowledging the rock that you are. Acknowledging the fortress that you are.
We thank you, Lord, that you are for us and we are for you. We thank you, Lord, that we are dwelling in the shelter of the most high and we will abide in the shadow of the almighty. That we will say of the Lord that you are our fortress, our refuge in whom Lord will we trust?
Surely you will deliver us from the snare of the Fowler from the deadly pestilence. We will cover you with feathers and under your wings shall we trust your faithfulness is our shield and buckler. We shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flies by day.
The peacefulness that stalks in darkness or the calamity lot that destroys us in the noonday. 1000 will fall on their side, 10,000 on the right hand and no harm will come near us, with our eyes only, we see the punishment of the wicked.
Because you Lord God, you have made our yourselves a dwelling place our refuge. The most high and no evil will befall us, no will plague will approach our tents. You will give your angels charge over us to guide us in all our ways.
They will lift up their hands so that we will not strike our foot against the stone. We shall tread upon the lion and the adder, the young lion and the dragon shall we tremble under thy feet because you love us.
You will deliver us because in you know, you know our names. You will protect us and when we call you Lord. You are going to answer. You be with us in trouble. You be with us in joy. You'll be with us in success and victories and challenges.
And Father, with long life will satisfy you because we are constantly going to lift up our hands and worship you. So we thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We thank you for the opportunity to worship you as you have called us and our hearts have responded.
And Father, I'm praying that in this season of strife and all that is going on around us, they will be found close to you in the house of the Lord. Our hearts anchored by the word, our hearts and our spirit, anchored by your spirit.
Father, we pray that you our rock, may we run into you. We thank you for this season where you're sharpening us through the challenges that we are facing. And Father, we are grateful that we can stand and remain in faith.
Knowing with all our hearts that you are for us and we are for you. Bless the works of our hands. Bless the wealth of our souls and Father, we pray may we look to the hills where help comes from. Strengthen us, encourage us, send help where it's needed.
Send revelation where wisdom is lacking, send knowledge, so we don't perish. I pray for every single one of us that God, may you bless us mightily. We lift up Sarge, disease in hospital. Pray for this moment, dear Lord command the blessing of the Lord to be upon him. You said healing is the children's portion, so we're standing in gap as intercesors.
Asking Lord that he strengthens Sarge in the name of Jesus. We pray that your will be done for Sarge. That Father as your children, we ask for healing because it is our bread and it is a promise and we ask for healing.
Help his mind in this hour in the name of Jesus. Command the blessing of the Lord to be upon Sarge, and we lift up all of our seniors that God gives them strength, wisdom to hydrate and to drink water.
Things that we take for granted, I pray Lord that may you quicken their minds to hold on to those things that makes living and life easy in the name of Jesus. We pray for strength and wisdom for doctors, even as they're trying to figure out what's going on with his body.
We pray for wisdom in the name of Jesus, we pray for Mama Nina comfort her soul. Remove all fear and worry and doubt and we all stand in faith, holding on together. Believing Lord that what you said in your word is true.
That with two or more of you have gathered in my name whatever you ask that heaven will endorse it. So, Father, we ask together we ask for healing for Sarge in the name of Jesus. Father I pray for all of us as we continue in this summer.
Help us, help us in these challenging times. So that our hearts remain steadfast on you and our minds remain steadfast on the Kingdom. Turn our eyes from worthless things and continue to direct us in the path of your command.
May hold onto your values and statutes. May we be strengthened in the way we think and do things. Provide where we are lacking. Strengthen us where we ae weak. Encourage us where we are facing strife.
Pray for hope, where there's hopelessness. We continue to submit our children to you in the name of Jesus. Now as we go through this day bless all of us. Open our eyes to see something that continues to enhance our faith.
Let us hear the word of the Lord so we can be transformed. We love you, Lord and we are grateful for sending your son. Now as we look to you. Your person this day lead us not into temptation.
Continue to deliver us from the evil one, for thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever, Amen. Brothers and sisters He is our strength, He is our rock, He is our fortress. Let him be our stronghold.
Where our minds are steadfast on him. May the Lord bless you. May you have a wonderful day. I encourage somebody today ask the Lord to give you wisdom to see where there is a need and encourage somebody today. May the Lord bless all of us, have a wonderful day.
