The Qualities Of God As Revealed In His Names
"Isaiah 12:6 - Qedosh Yisrael, Holy One Of Israel"
Good morning, good morning, good morning, everybody. Let us go to the Lord in prayer. This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it. We thank the Lord for redeeming us from the curse of the law. Though we are crucified with him still but yet leave not as us, but Christ lives by faith in us.
We thank him for his words that dwells in us richly. We can stand in it, we can trust it. It can instruct us. We can work with it. It can direct us, and it can heal us. We're able to stand on the truth of his word knowing that this is the will of the Lord.
That you sent to us to help us in our quest to find our way back to him. So we thank the Lord for who he is, what he has named himself in order to help us in our situations. We bless him and we honor him.
We thank you for this day. That is, we walk in it, that we will continue to step our way towards the journey to heaven. We bless the Lord and we thank you. We thank him for this fellowship that he has enabled us to be part and we bless him for what he has in store for us and we pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.
We are continuing with the names of the Lord and today we are going to look at the name Qedosh, Qedosh it’s found in Isaiah 12:6, and let's mentioned a lot in in the Old Testament. So it's spelled Qedosh, Israel.
So it simply means holy one of Israel. So Isaiah, chapter 12:6 says this cry out and shout, oh inhabitants of Zion. For great is the holy one of Israel in your midst. Set out, cry out and shouts, oh inhabitants of Zion for Great is the holy one of Israel in your midst.
Well, this name has to do with the holiness of God, the holiness of God. Now when I was young, when I read this scripture that says be holy for I am holy. For me it almost connotes instruction to be holy.
It almost feels like it was an instruction and a command to be holy. So they was a little resistance there in other ways. Everything that we are told to do when we're young, we almost want to do the opposite.
So it was almost like a fight. Because just as a command is almost, your flesh is trying to resist the command. Until you get to understand God's character and nature when the Lord is asking us to be holy, for he is holy. It’s not an instruction rather than an encouragement.
In other words, every father wants their child to have the same qualities. Or it's not better they have. So when God is saying be he holy because I am holy. He is encouraging us to take on his nature.
Because it's good. Not because it doesn't want to be sinful, but rather it is good. Being holy has is not the opposite of being sinful. Sin is just sin. The opposite of sin is righteousness.
Holiness says no it's a character. It’s the character of God and he is asking us to possess the same character. Be holy for I am holy, in other words, be like me. Be like me. Now, brothers and sisters.
We heard the word Qedosh Israel is the Hebrew name for God, meaning holy one of Israel. God is so unique. Incomprehensible, extremely mysterious that he gives himself names that describe his qualities.
Now it's challenging for us to be holy by ourselves, because we are born sinful. But God is so good that he provides a way for us through his son Jesus Christ and the finished work of the cross to enable you and I to enter into the holiness that he desires for us to have as a characteristic trait. Not as a command, but rather as a way of being.
He wants us to reflect his character for being holy, that's what he wants. Not because he doesn't want us to be seen for, not because it is good to be holy. So you see it in the Old Testament a lot when the children of Israel just came out of Egypt.
God gave instructions that be holy. In other words, reflect me, reflects my qualities, so reflect my qualities. So the first time, the first time this name is mentioned in scriptures, we encounter this name is when Moses means God as the burning bush Exodus 35.
When God told Moses removed your sandals because this place on which he was turning on was Holy Ground. Why is it Holy? Because I'm here. Me, God, I'm in here right now. I'm here right now and me being here as a characteristic trait, this place has become holy.
So be holy, remove your sandals because I want you to be holy as I am holy. Then he gives Moses instructions that these instructions are coming because that's the quality I want you to have.
If you are to receive these instructions and do what I'm calling you to do. Be Holy as I am Harley. So holiness really is not an opposition of anything, but rather an encouragement by God to us to possess his qualities because it is good.
Not because we don't want you to be sinful, but no just being holy, it's good, it's less strenuous, it's less stressful, it's less challenging, it's less, it makes your life easy being holy.
You don't have to deal with a lot of negative emotions being holy, so God names himself that. In him, there is no sin. There is no complicatedness because there is purity. If something is pure, if a fabric is pure, you don't have to wash it because it is pure.
You don't have to waste time trying to figure out to purify it. That's who God is, and he's saying if you are like this, if you are holy like me, then it simplifies your life because. The instruction rather or of the encouragement is be holy for I am holy.
If you possess my character. If you become who I am, what I have called myself. It simplifies your life. Holiness really does simplify our lives. It makes it easy and I believe that's why the enemy fights us in this area. Because most of the challenges we face.
They come through the route of sin. So God names himself the holy one of Israel. The holy one of Israel. So brothers and sisters this is an encouragement. This is God's name that comes with the encouragement for us, for you and I to be more like him.
So this title, holy one of his wrong appears frequently in the book of Isiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Habakkuk, Psalms and Job. And in order for us to really grasp this, we need to understand that holiness itself is grounded in God's nature.
That's why he put it in his name, his form of perfection. There is no sin in God. And he requires the same for us, in fact, he encourages the same for us. But God knows it's difficult.
But yet he names himself that way because he knows when you call on him you are calling one of his characters to come and enhance the quality of your life. So when the scripture says run into the Lord. His name is a strong tower. The righteous they run into it and they find safety.
So when we are running into the holy one of Israel, we find our safety in being holy just as he is holy, there is safety in you being holy, just as he is holy. God named himself the holy one of Israel, the holy one of Israel and then it is encouragement to us, says I want you to be holy for I am holy.
Because it's good and it simplifies the quality of your life, being holy and to make sure that we get there because he knows it's complicated, even sends his son to make a way for you and I to be holy and then he gave us the aid of the Holy Spirit.
For you and I to be holy, remember what I've always said guys, the quickest way to holiness is through temptation. Quickest way holiness is not waking up in the morning and we are praying.
I am singing and doing all the statutes and exercising all the values and statutes of our Kingdom. That's not holiness. That's us connecting with God. Holiness is when temptation comes and we resist it.
But the only way you can resist this is not because we are strong to. Says when you are weak, I am strong, I am. That's his name. I am strong. So he's like when you are weak insert my name in there and then you become strong.
When you feel, when you feel like there's temptation, insert my name in there and you become holy for I am holy. So it's really God's desire for us to carry the qualities that he possesses in his name, so that when we call on him, we are not just calling Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Shammah, we are calling the holy one of Israel.
Now think about this, the scripture says we inhabit the traits of his people. What do we get in return when God shows up, he comes with all his qualities. And when all these qualities are present in our lives, it makes life simple and easy.
I want us to look at holiness from a different perspective altogether. That God is encouraging us to be holy, not because it is the opposite of being sinful, but rather he wants us to be like him because he is good.
In other words, God is good and we always do this right, God is good and everybody says all the time. Why is he good all the time? Because he is holy and being holy comes with goodness and simplicity.
Now when you look at the 10 Commandments right? They are telling us not to do certain things. How can we not do those things when we are sinful in our nature? Until you realize that it's in his name that will enable us not to.
And holiness, isn't holiness the opposite? Or the other side of the 10 commandments. And God names himself that. So that when you call on him, you are calling on holiness and when he shows up. He then enables you and I and he encourages you and I to be holy, for he is holy.
Isn't it amazing how holiness is rarely spoken of in churches anymore and then you look at the quality of human life. How it has become complicated. And I can almost say it's because we have kicked away holiness, because holiness is good.
It simplifies life because God named himself the holy one of Israel. So that when we call on him we become the character in which that he's pushing us to be. So today. I want us to look at holiness from a different perspective altogether.
That God is encouraging us to be like him because it is good. Because holiness is the opposite of sin, because it is good. We are called the righteousness of Christ so that we can be holy like God. Colossians 2 says Jesus presents us to the Father as holy and acceptable.
So, holiness is what we are going for. Is that what we want to be? Why? Because he is holy. It is an encouragement that be holy for I am holy. Be like me, that's what God is saying. Be like me, it's easy, it's good, it's simple.
God doesn't have to deal with dictation and all these things that are thrown at us. Why? Because he is above it, he is above it all. So when he's telling us, hey, be holy for I am holy, in other words, ascend and it simplifies your life. It's good for you to be holy.
So the command is good for you to be holy and I I'll put it in my name so that when you call on me, you're calling on holiness. Then the more I look at these names, brothers and sisters I keep seeing this genius of God. That God is just unbelievably genius.
The way he has structured things to get us to enjoy his qualities. So brothers and sisters, there's another name, Qedosh of Israel, the holy one of Israel. Let's add it. Let's add this to our list and let's continue growing in understanding these names.
And again, if you didn't listen to or if you didn't attend Bible study on Sunday, go back and find that teaching from Sunday because it puts into perspective why these names are so important and how it aids, how they aid us in our prayer lives.
And along with that, the Lords prayer. How the names of God and right there in the Lord's prayer as a foundational piece to attain all the steps to get to the throne.
So brothers and sisters, let us pray. Heavenly Father, Our blessed Redeemer we are continuously being amazed and challenged by your names. Thank you for revealing yourself to us in this manner.
That when we call on you we are invoking the qualities that you possess in order to aid our lives in this journey that we are on to glory. We thank you for all that you have done and what, you're still going to do. We are blessed because we are your children.
We are blessed because we stand in the congregation of the mighty. We have access to you and we give you full access to our lives. To help us in your encouragement to be holy, for you are holy.
Heavenly Father it's a great honor and privilege to call on the holy one of Israel. Thank you for the encouragement to be holy. We embrace it for we know it is good and it will simplify our life.
Help us through the Holy Spirit to continue to change and through the instructions of the world to continue to be renewed. I pray that may our faith grow in this season. May you broaden up our shoulders in our quest to serve humanity.
I pray for every household represented here that may what we learn flow down to our children, nieces and nephews so that their lives are also enhanced, the quality of their lives is transformed too.
We pray Lord that when we call on your name that healing comes with it, wisdom comes with it, peace comes with it, love comes with it. Patience comes with it. Sanctification comes with it. When we call on the holy one of Israel.
Help us, help us, help us in our efforts to become better and greater Christians. We don't know what to do, but our eyes are on you. In Psalms it says I will lift up my eyes. And look on to the heavens where our help comes from.
So help us Lord as we continue to learn these names. To get a greater understanding of who you are as you grow in the knowledge of you. So that our interactions, with you are enhanced that we grow, we mature in the things of God and we become that which you are calling us to become.
Blessed are you, God, the Father of our ancestors. The 24 elders that you have directed and now sitting around the throne. And we are surrounded by a crowd of witnesses cheering us on in our quest to be holy, for you are holy. Thank you and we bless you.
Now, as we go throughout this day, help us to be wise. Help us to understand. Help us to see, open our eyes so that we can walk in the truth of your word, of your revelation and of your wisdom.
We thank you for all that you have done and what you are still going to do in our lives. We give you permission to behold these lives that we carry to encourage us in the way we should go and Father we’ll forever be grateful because we know we will give glory back to you.
So as we go through this day, lead us not into temptation, deliver us from the evil one, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen. Brothers and sisters be holy for he is holy. May the Lord bless you, may have a wonderful day in the Lord. We'll see each other tomorrow.
