Thus Says The Lord-Who God Says He Is, His Commandments and Promises
Exodus 19:1-9 "Thus You Shall Say To The House Of Jacob And Tell The Children Of Israel, You Have Seen What I Did To The Egyptians And How I Bore You On Eagles Wings And Brought You To Myself "
Good morning, family. Let’s start off with a scripture from Psalms 34:1-4. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord.
The humble shall hear thereof and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord and heard me and delivered me from all my fears, Amen. Let's pray.
Father God, we thank you for this day, Father. It is a brand new day, Father. It's a lovely day, Father. Father God, you made this day for us and we thank you, Father. But in this day, Father, let us remember to give you thanks, to give you glory, to give you praise.
Let us remember to talk to you, Father. Let us remember to sit, be quiet and wait for your answer. Father God, we want to commune with your daily Father. And while we pray on this line and teaching on this line, Father, we pray for the people that don't even have a train of thought about you this morning, Father.
We pray that you send someone in this their last Father, to tell them just thank God. Just rely on Jesus. Just getting His word. Just remember who you are in Christ. That we all are somebody.
We all are kings and queens in the Lords place. We thank you, Father. We thank you for your word in Jesus, name we pray, Amen. Family, this morning I would be coming from Exodus 19:1-9. New international version.
On the first day of the third month, after the Israelite left Egypt, on that very day, they came to the desert of Sinai. After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the desert of Sinai. And Israel kept there in the desert in front of the mountain.
Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called Him from the mountain and said, this is what you want to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel.
You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt and how I carried you on the eagle's wing and brought you to myself. Now if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then out of all the nations with you will be my treasure possession.
Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom, a priest and a holy nation. These are the words you want to speak to the Israelites. So Moses went back in some of the elders of the people and said there will be for them all the words the Lord had commanded him to speak.
The people all responded together. We will do everything the Lord has said. So Moses brought the answer back to the Lord. The Lord said to Moses, I am going to come to you in a dense cloud so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you.
Then Moses told the Lord what the people have said. I'll go ahead on God's time and faithfulness. The revival of Sinai in the third month is describes to us, God, perfect timing and faithfulness and lead his people.
Sinai is a place where God will establish his covenant with Israel, giving them the Ten Commandments. The wilderness represents a place of tested and preparation. God's direction to Moses.
He gave Moses the written instruction where they should say what he should say to the children of Israel. In verse 4, we see that the children of Israel could relate to the power of God.
How he delivered them from bondage with his mighty power. Not with his power only but with his love. He tells them, he tells Moses to tell them how he carried them on Eagle's wing and brought them to himself.
God wanted the children of Israel to obey him. He wanted them to obey him fully and keep his covenant. Not just sometime or maybe but forever. Then out of all the nations, there would be his special peoples.
So the children of Israel had a special place with God. And God was relaying this to Moses. I wonder how much do we know how we feel does God have a special place for us? Yes, we are special God's side.
But we want to be like the children of Israel. We want to be called to obedience and we want to be obedient. God was just not speaking to a selected few, a certain group of people, you were speaking to everybody.
And when he spoke about the Eagle's wing, it's Exodus 19:4 tells us, you have seen what I did to the Egyptian. How I bear you on Eagle's wing and brought you to myself. Describing verse for the Eagle wings, it's a semi-strengthened power and a little, just a little background of what the Eagle is.
Eagle is the bird that can lift an object that's four times it’s body weight. Showing how strong it is. A Harpy eagle is considered the strongest eagle in the world, according to the Guinness and Book of Records.
It also has a strong eye. It isn't only a single semi-strength. It also stands for peace, freedom, and even faith. The Bible describes a personal faith as an eagle's soaring in the sky.
And we find this scripture in Isaiah 40:31. They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint.
Concerning the covenant, God did my rescue Israelites merely just to set them free from bondage, but to bring them into a relationship with him. For purpose of their journey is not just physical, but spiritual.
By bringing them to himself at Mount Sinai, God is preparing to make a covenant with them, establishing a relationship that would define the identity of the people of Israel. And God is the servant that covenant with the children of Israel.
This verse, he promised to bless them abundantly, if they obey his commandment. There would be set apart as a holy nation, and as a kingdom of priests, by following God's instruction.
So God just did not set them free, but in it for nothing. He wanted to take care of them. He wanted them to obey him. He wanted them to follow him, because God is a perfect God. The covenant is based on the idea that obedience to God and well being to define prosperity for the people of Israel.
It emphasizes the importance of living according to God's will in order to experience His lesson and to fulfill their purpose as a chosen nation. And that goes for us today. God wants us to live within His realms.
God wants us to obey Him. He wants us to do like He said do and He has already blessed us. But in order to get these blessings, we got to be obedient. When my research looking for a covenant, let me read, in the biblical narrative, the concept of covenant is centered to God's relationship with humanity.
A covenant is a solemn agreement between two parties, binding agreement with terms, promises, stipulations, and science. A preparation for an intimate to a covenant with God is a significant theme throughout scripture.
I like the seriousness and sanctity of the divine agreement. So a covenant is serious. When we go into a covenant, not supposed to break the covenant. Moses got the people ears to understand what God message was.
We are the same and we know God message because we got the Bible. In the Old Testament, Noah covenant. I say like that after the fluid God established a covenant with Noah, promising never to destroy the earth with a fluid again.
The preparation by Noah’s obedience and building the ark, the gathering of the ancient animals as God commands. The sign of covenant was the rainbow. The Abrahamic covenant.
God's covenant with Abraham involved promises of man descendants, blessing, preparation for this covenant to Abraham calls to leave his home land and journey to a land God will show him.
The covenant was organized through a ritual that bothered the cutting of animals and God's presence, has between the pieces. The Mosaic covenant, the covenant of Sinai requires a sense of preparation.
The Israelite was to consecrate themselves, wash their clothes and abstaining from sexual relations. Then given other laws and the ten commandment formed the core of this covenant where the people agreed to obey God.
The David covenant, God's covenant with David promising everlasting dynasty. The preparation of our David had known about Saul and his rise to Kingship, demonstrating his heart for God.
In the New Testament, we find that the covenant prophesied in Jeremiah 31, chapter, verse 31-34, is fulfilled Jesus Christ. Preparation for this covenant is seen in the ministry of John the Baptist who called God people to repent at baptism.
Jesus life, built and restoration inside of this covenant. Often forgiveness of sin and a new relationship with God. And a personal covenant we as believers we are called to prepare our hearts to get into a covenant with God. This involves, repentance, baptism and commitment to follow Jesus and the dwelling of the Holy Spirit is a sign and seal of this covenant.
Do we have a testimony about our covenant? Have we set aside everything and everyone to follow Jesus? Just think about Noah answer. He answer God calls to build an ark. What will we do physically if God calls us, would it be to store the ministry, a school, a church, then God calls Abraham to leave his homeland and journey into an unknown place.
Will we be happy or satisfied or pleased if God uprooted us. Yes, we would. Only if we had already set a relationship or covenant with him. Then Moses then called the whole nation to the means to tell them what God said.
He called the elders of the people and he trusted them to relay God's message to the people so they understand what God was commanding them to do. The people are responding together.
We would do everything the Lord would say, then Moses relayed the message to the Lord. I will also read verses 10 and 11. And the Lord said to Moses, go to the people and concentrate them today and tomorrow.
Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day because on that day, the Lord will come down on Mt. Sinai in the sight of all the people. So Moses did exactly what the Lord asked him to do and all the people agreed.
Moses was obedient to God. As God people, we need to keep our eyes focused on God and our hearts aligned with his word. Then we would be in covenant with the relationship with God.
And in many ways, this relationship our God seeks to be in communication with us today. And God is. He is just like we are reading this Exodus, God is the same God today and he is the same of us today just like he did the children of Israel.
He wants to be our people. He wants us to be a special people to him. He wants us to be the nation. But what do we do? We have so many things pulling us one way or the other way. Sometimes it is hard to live above the line. Death has us staying steadfast in the word.
And just as Moses had to act as a mediator between God and Israel. We have Jesus as our mediator who constantly intercede for us. Every day when we get up, we believe that Jesus constantly intercede for us and he does.
This verse encourage us to recognize the importance of listening to Gods voice in our lives. So we have to because God is always speaking. And God always want to hear from us. Whether through prayer, scripture, reading, or through the wise counsel of others.
God wants to hear from us. God is always present. He is never far away. At the end of my last lesson, I say he is one of the biggest of people in this world. All of us have a place in God. He answers all at the same time and that’s power.
And we find it in the word of God. We cannot miss it. We see it everywhere. Even driving down the road, if we don’t have the radio on or cd on or whatever on, we hear about the Lord even on the side boards.
Our eyes just glace and his word is there. We can’t miss it so we have no reason to be lost. Just like Exodus. You know, I deliver the children of Israel out of Egypt. God delivers something all the time.
We have to sit out and really see God knew you really delivered me. Yes he does. He's not taking us out of Egypt well in a sense out of Egypt. So we are in bondage, somehow in bondage. If we did we would have a covenant relationship with him.
So what God is saying to us every day, spend time with me. Come to me, I’ll deliver you. I’ll do whatever you want me to do. But we've got to spend that time with him and our words will align with his words.
Like I said, God will do what we want him to do as long as it aligns with his will, in this message we find out that Moses was obedient. Moses did exactly what the Lord told him to do.
He spoke the words that Lord told him to do. He brought the children of Egypt to Mount Sinai. They had instructions not to touch anything, not to come up the mountain.
So God had powered Moses to do this because that’s exactly what he did. Because we know his words if they did they would die. So God is all powerful God, all loving God, all knowing God.
All we have to do is do what he say. Like I said, in this world we live today there is so much proven. We still got to stay focused whatever is pulling it. It’s not pulling the right way, we've got to stay focus on Jesus Christ.
And like I said we are in the wilderness, we are. The sun is shinning, the grass is cut, trees are trimmed but the wilderness is our lives. That's what the wilderness is. The wilderness is what we do every day.
So God will bring us out of that wilderness, but we got to trust him. And we got to have a personal relationship with him. And we get into him a covenant with him. Thank you. Let us pray.
Father God, we thank you for this word today. Father God, we thank you for explain to us what a covenant is. It's a agreement between two people and our agreement with you. Father God, we want to be like you.
Lord we want to serve you. Father God, that we want to be on this straight and narrow road. And Father God, we pray for all that needs your help today. Everybody needed. Now some people are desperate.
We ask you Father God that you send somebody into their lives to lead them on the staight road Father because you love everybody you don’t want them to be lost. Father God, we ask you to give us the mind that same mind that you have. You love people and don’t want them to be lost.
Father when we see them go astray it’s because they don't know. They haven't considered you. But Father God, you left us here. We as Christian to give your people the word, to give everybody the word they need a word.
And we ask you to lead and guide us this day Father God. And say what thus say the Lord? We ask you this day Father God, to send someone to their lives need a word. They need a word, Father God.
And give us the words Father God and let us have the boldness to speak it to them Father. And Father God when all it is said and done, we thank you for your son, Jesus. We give you praise, Father, we give you glory, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
